What a great day. Everything went according to plan. Yes as always, fantastic away support from Rushden. The fans were excellent. Top marks for their behavour and friendliness. As expected though, the better team won on the day, by a country mile. This is another example which proves my theory, A bigger heart will always beat a bigger playing budget. And by God did we want to win today. You can pay players £100 - £200 a week all you like. But if you come across a team that pays lads £10 A game, but they want to win the game much more, then the lads with the biggest desire will often win. Eynesbury 4 Rushden & Diamonds 1 I rest my case.

You've been building a side for years, we've been doing it for months. We were missing some of our first team players and some of ours also had a poor day, but that's football. Looking forward to the return match already, we owe you one.

Yes looking forward to the return match. Eynesbury werent at full strength either, and you are correct that Rushden were poor in front of goal yesterday. And just on the point about building a side.... Yes you are re-building (and full credit for that by the way), but bar one player, all of the Eynesbury lads are very local and until this season, have played for nothing except pride an passion for their local club. In stark contrast Rushden have cherry picked the players they felt would win them the league from various clubs around the area and tempted them with handsome pay packets. Its not jealousy, thats football these days, even at this level, im fully aware of that. My point is, reflecting my earlier post really, 'giant-killing' exsists in football, because on the day if all the players from team a want to win the game much more than the players from team b, then the team with the most desire often end up victorious.

Just to cover a couple of your points eynesburylad. Firstly, our club held trials for players to come and play for us. It did NOT cherry pick the best players or we'd have taken the Long Buckby team after they won the Prem, half of whom are now at Sileby with a very wealthy chairman. These players chose to come to us and they all have to pay to become members of our club in order to play for us (all of our players do), a few of them even came through the R & D youth set up (McDonald, Gillingwater, Merrill, Cox, Broadbent, Dent). Second, it has been well documented that our players do not get paid if they lose, so in reality on Saturday your players were paid more than ours. Third, please don't insult us by claiming we pay our players between £100 & £200 without any facts to back it up. It's got to be £500 or more as we're made of money don'tchaknow? ;D

Gotta say I think 400 attendance is a bit on the low side considering St Neots FC didn't have a game, I think Eynesbury were hoping for nearer double that??

Ha ha. First of all snowman, yes I do think the crowd was little lower than expected. All along we were planning for around 500 + . I suppose in the grand scheme of things we were happy with 452, which is still a large league crowd for us. The Rushden fans were a great bunch and a credit to their club and were very sporting in defeat, admitting that on the day, the best team did win. The other points were tongue in cheek, and expecting some banter back. lol. I wasnt aware that the Rushden players didnt get paid if they lost, so fair play to that, and I think all clubs should adopt that policy. A great motivation tool. And im pretty sure that players would've been contacted about joining the club at certain times, that goes on at all levels, so im not going to believe the 'players turned up for a trial' comment. Anyway, I havent got issue with that anyway. Anyway back to football matters, its looking quite clear that half a dozen teams will take points of each other, providing the Div.1 with a very tight league this season.

I thought Eynesbury took their chances and at crucial times and we didn't, when it went 2-1 i really thought we would go on and win the match, the third Eynesbury goal killed us. Also fair play to the strikers for taking 4 of the 5 chances they had, top quality. The highlights are on youtube now, i think had we still been playing now we wouldn't have scored! youtu.be/DjkiBAczbToMost of the lads are fairly local or certainly within 10 miles of Rushden as the club needs to be self sustainable. Perhaps we need to cheery pick from further afield then!!!! No seriously despite the result it was a nice away day on saturday and div 1 looks to be the toughest it has been for years so that can only bode well for an exciting season.

Well 3ofdiamonds its no insult but I think you will find at least 3 maybe 4 players are on £100 + (do you think that you would get alfie taylor for less ?) the rest of the squad £40 +.

Eynesbury Lad, well done on your victory on Saturday. The lad upfront who scored the hat-trick was very clinical so you should expect a 7 day approach from us as we continue to 'cherry pick' all the best players (only jesting). I'm glad you have been put right about the way we reward our players, they will receive a very 'thin' pay packet for October! It's a good job really as having only played 3 home league matches, with 6 away, all we've been doing is putting money in the coffers of all the teams we've been visiting! Anyway I trust you weren't too disappointed with the travelling crowd on what was a pretty foul afternoon weatherwise and perhaps you will now be in a position to start lopping a couple of metres off those conifers to keep those residents in the houses behind the ground happy! Look forward to seeing Eynesbury and their travelling fans in a few weeks time at the Dog n' Duck and you should note we have proper real ale on offer. Expect a tougher game.

Well 3ofdiamonds its no insult but I think you will find at least 3 maybe 4 players are on £100 + (do you think that you would get alfie taylor for less ?) the rest of the squad £40 +. They are all on an incentive deal for winning or drawing and nothing for losing so all this speculation on so much a week is pie in the sky.

Hi Lillywhite. Yes delighted with the travelling support, and a great bunch they were. And yes they helped big time in putting some much needed revenue in the coffers.Yes apologies for the lack of ale, and on the subject of players money, as that seems to get everyone going on here. I havent a issue, infact good luck, if a club can afford decent money to attract quality players then so be it. Every club would be lying if they said they wouldnt do they same if their financial situation allowed. My earlier point was that i firmly believe that money alone will not get the best from the player, however a player playing with pride and passion with fire in his belly will often end up victorius. And that is preciely what was said by your gaffer in the post match interview. He stated that Eynesbury wanted it more, then he said its going to be a busy week....more big name signings ? And our striker, well, hes had plenty of 7 dayers put in for him, from various clubs but hes local, loyal and happy where he is. !! Yes will expect a much tougher game at the dog and duck .Good luck - until then..!

Rest assured, Eynesbury Lad, that to a man all Diamonds fans could see that your lads wanted it more, so no complaints, no excuses from us and the players need to move on since that was a kick up the a**e for them despite it being our first league defeat. As for finances there is no way that the fan based revenue will be poured all into the playing side ala Long Buckby at expense of the longer term goal of finding a permanent home for our reformed club. As a community club we are also running 24 teams this year, our Under 18's are currently winning 4-0 at halftime against Cogenhoe and leading the league by a margin and our Under 14's beat Walsall on Saturday so progress on a number of fronts is important for the development of the club.
