Long Buckby 2 Broxbourne 0
An early Carl Holmes header set the tone for this game.
Buckby continued to dominate against a poor Broxbourne side, other than headed efforts either side of half time the visitors struggled to achieve any momentum and it was no surprise when Jason Lee thundered in the Bucks 2nd. Buckby still had plenty of chances to increase their lead but were pretty poor in front of goal.

Hartley Wintney 0 - 2 Newport Pagnell. Not a bad game over at Harltley although they wre not a great team to play. Newport played well considering half the team were either out injured, on holiday or suspended and the lose of Vinnie Shrieves to Wellingborough Town. This gave a chance for the younger players to impress which they did! A good brace from Pete Rowe in the first half was enough to send the Swans through to the next round and also earn the club £600! Newport controlled the game from start to finish! Another thing to mention which is rare on this site was the officials done a very good job and were very fair! Next up in the Vase away either Downton (near Salisbury) or Moneyfields (in Portsmouth). Long distance away games!!!

Biggleswade Town FC 3 - 4 Bugbrooke St. Michael FC
Playing a side two leagues or so above us was always gonna be a tough trip away. Going 1-0 down didn't help matters but Tom O'Brien pulled us level on the stroke of half time to give us belief. Biggleswade were technically better than BSMFC and for another 20 minutes we defended for the most part.
A minute of quality and before you know it, an own goal and a Dan Brown strike saw us 3-1 up against the run of things. They bought on a big target man, showered us with aerial attacks and it took a overhead kick on the edge of the box to undo our 2 goal cushion. Hanging on for dear life didn't quite get us over the line as the referee played a 55 minute second half. With a minute left, the aerial threat done us again (three of their back four were 6'4) and they nicked a last gasp equaliser.
With extra time, a betting man would have put us to the sword and paid out on Biggleswade. But somehow we got a bit more energy and went again. Held strong for the first period then with 7 to go, Adam Baptist finished a great move to slot us 4-3 up. We held on, defended the long ball and deserved our name in the next round alongside Desborough. Not bad for a Div 1 side.

Playing a side two leagues or so above us was always gonna be a tough trip away. Biggleswade Town are in the Spartan South Midlands Premier Division, so theoretically one level higher. Still well done though.

In that case, thanks for the note - I'll be having words with the psychology manager at the club who told us going into extra time that they were Southern League equivalent!!

Felixstowe 3 Sleaford 4. Felixstowe were 3-0 up at half time ! Excellent come back! The manager must of given his team a kick up the back side at half time! Good to see the UCL clubs do well in the Vase. Hopefully a UCL club will win it this season!

A good kick up the backside, plus the opposition having a player sent off early in second half for spitting !

Scooter dont dilute the achievement. Almost every time you played us you were reduced to 10 men yet always managed to get some kind of result

Desborough 9-0 Bugbrooke SM
No doubt about it, a lesson today. A quick first with a nice bobble over our keeper didn't really help us settle and two quick fire goals before 15 minutes put us out of the tie. Desborough were stronger, quicker, more direct and the front two were extremely hard to play against. I sat in the dugout for the first 45 and after an odd penalty that wasn't remotely appealed for we came in 4-0 down.
We handed Desborough probably 2 more, but they cut us open two or three more times and our heads had simply gone. A tough lesson, a totally fair result and no point discussing a couple of decisions that hurt us - they were never going to save us. We've not lost before today and I hope it gives us a bump and a reminder that it's tough playing with the bigger boys and if we want to compete, we've got to be on fire from minute 1.
Well done Desborough and best of luck in the next round.

A long trip to Portsmouth! My Report taken of the Newport website. Moneyfields 3 – 2 Newport Pagnell. It took until the last few minutes for the Hampshire side to grab the winning goal. But considering the Swans were weakened and the side had to be re-organised with some key players missing, the Swans put up a good fight. Newport started the game well and had a very good first 20 minutes with Kelly (a very good shot from the edge of the area) and McDonald going close. The first goal came on the 14th minute when the ball was put through to the chasing Drew Mitten who slid to beat the keeper, slotting it past the keeper into the net. Moneyfields were level nine minutes later when Abulie Nendewley beat the offside to take the ball around Percell to fire home. Despite pressure from both sides on goal both failed to add a second goal in the first half. Half Time 1-1. The problem the Swans had in the first half and some of the second half was that the left back was open leaving Moneyfields to attack up that side which enabled them to get crosses in. This was apparent when 10 minutes into the second half the Moneys took advantage of this from a cross from the right side which was met by Dan Gauntlett to score. This problem was solved when Lee Tinsley was brought on with Rob Lock moving over to the Left wing back. With 20 minutes remaining Newport levelled things when they were awarded a free kick on the edge of the area. Rob McDonald made sure he took advantage of a badly placed wall firing from the edge of the area hitting the post, then in! It was looking like a late trip home due to extra time being played but the sucker punch came when Moneyfields scored the winner in the last 2 minutes, Gauntlett’s second goal, to send the home side through into the next round. Despite the moaning and the odd comment from Moneyfields resident comedian, we thought all three officials did a good fair job. We were a bit gutted about the result as Moneyfields were there for the taking!
