Sleaford Town FC At the league management committee meeting held on 8th May 2006 the promotion of Sleaford Town FC to the Premier Division for season 2006-07 was approved, subject to the club completing improvements to facilities at the RAF Cranwell ground in accordance with a timetable stipulated by the league. Failure to complete upgrades on the due dates would generate the payment of a bond for non compliance.
Due to unforeseen planning issues Sleaford Town FC have now advised the league that they consider themselves unable to meet the proposed timetable and have withdrawn their application for promotion to the Premier Division.
The Premier Division will therefore have 21 clubs in membership for season 2006-07 with 17 in Division One

You don't happen to know what the timescales were and how much the bond was to be? Would be curious to know if this is what tipped the boat. I would imagine Sleaford couldn't risk paying large sums of money if these timescales weren't met. It is a shame because when we played them this season they seemed a progressive club. (Plus also it is a blooming long way to travel)

They had to complete "General" ground work by 1st July, with Floodlights completed by 5th August. The bond was £500 per week.

Think of it this way Ian, you weren't going up three weeks ago, and your still not going up now. Don't worry about it. Congrats on winning Div 1 and good luck next season when you can actually get promoted!!!! ;D

No they are NOT, they have withdrawn their request due to lack of time in doing necessary work. The Premier Division will run with 21 teams unless Harrowby appeal against their relegation, because they did ask to stay in the Premier Division. This would be another way of getting back to even numbers in each division.

No they are NOT, they have withdrawn their request due to lack of time in doing necessary work. To just clarify this, the league backed us all the way , and even bent rules in doing so. We were aware of the time constraints and when we spoke to the RAF, before we spoke to the UCL we were under the impression that planning permission had been granted by the RAF, and this was conveyed to the UCL before their last meeting. Then we spoke again to the RAF and apparently even though on MOD property we did need planning permission, so when the UCL (bare in mind they still thought we didnt need planning for the lights) sent a letter stipulating guidelines and a bond, the decision was almost a foregone conclusion. The decision was made to safeguard the future of Sleaford Town and stop any possible jeopardy of funds to the new ground. We are very grateful, to the League for their backing and hope we havent caused too much inconvenience. now, we can all look forward to the World cup and a new season in our league

Perhaps it was all a ruse! Just to get everyone posting on here. Now Mr Walker will have an odd team each week ....and I don't mean Potton United!

What a crazy situation. The people at Sleaford want sacking, don't they prepare for this type of thing, didn't it look like they where going to get promoted ages ago? Why not plan ahead ? As seems to be the case, most of football is run by do do's not able to see the road ahead. Lets hope they get another chance next season.
