First game ended in a 3-0 win, which in the absence of the working manager apparently flattered us.
Played 2 different sides each half and with 5 potential 1st teamers not availablea satisfactory start, though results in these games is pretty irrelevant.
Probably happier to have signed a couple more players including Polish goalkeeper Marcin Lubniewski
Quick note - friendly with Holbeach will be a 7.15 kick off re the light.

Lost 2-0 to Holbeach last night but were as unfortunate to lose last night as we were to beat March 3-0 so in a sense a bit happier as I found out a lot about the squad.
Had slightly the better of the game and chances all the way through, but gave away 2 bad goals (the 2nd with the last kick of the game) which is a lesson it itself, whilst Tom Roberts was inspired in the Holbeach goal.
Holbeach look as if they will be half decent this season, had a harder edge than us and Nimmo and Childs (on loan from Stamford) who scored the goals showed their quality.
For PNS the 3 forwards (Gibbs, Favell & Phillips) all played very well and gave the Holbeach defence quite a few problems.
Lots of other decent performances as well as some not so good, with players getting 2 further chances to impress v Whittlesey in our "possibles" team on Thursday and the 1st team fixture v Bourne on Saturday before we start picking the team seriously v Blackstones next Tuesday

PNS beat Bourne 2-1 which was a result that slightly flattered our visitors who arrived on the back of an impressive victory over Spalding in the week, but were very much 2nd best until the last 15 minutes when the PNS changes started to have a negative impact on the shape of the side.
We took the lead after just 5 minutes when Dave Kilby rounded the keeper and finished well and the rest of the half was all about good missed PNS chances.
Karl Gibbs fired in from close range 1 minute into the second half following good work from Phil Anderson, one of 8 2nd half substitutes, but the changes did not alter the shape of the game as PNS continued to dominate.
Bourne pulled a goal back with 10 minutes to go which sparked some panic in the PNS defence, but they held out to secure a comfortable win.
Onto Blackstones on Tuesday which will be a sterner test, with everything geared towards Rothwell Corinthians on August 18th who themselves enjoyed a 2-0 win against Perkins yesterday so must be half decent

Drew 2-2 with Blackstones this evening going 1-0 down after 12 minutes and equalizing through impressive 2nd half substitute Steve Phillips who added a second after Blackstones had retaken the lead from a corner in a game described by Blackstones boss Tony Lowther as a "proper game" which I wont argue with.
Fellow 2nd half substitutes Gary Roddis and Jason Doggett also played well in what was a much improved 2nd half showing after a frankly dissappointing first 45.

Good day out to Skeggy yesterday and a cracking night - unfortunately the team forgot that there was also a game to be played and turned in an abject display that resulted in a 2-1 defeat against a very strong Skegness Town side who won the Lincolnshire League last season and should have won by a wider margin.
Ashley Favell scored in the first half with a follow up to a Karl Gibbs shot, but the 1-0 half time score was an injustice to the the hard working home team and they duly scored 2 second half goals despite the heroics of Patryk Gawrysiak, the midfielder having to don the keepers gloves in the holidaying absence of Beeney & Lubniewski.
Apart from "Paddy" and Eddie Patten the rest of the team were dire and the good pre-season experienced by the side thus far was washed away in the space of 90 minutes - back to the drawing board!

it has been widely talked about that pns have a £20,000 playing budget, is this true? i have heard that pns has so far spent £10,000 in signing fees and promised bonus pay should they get promoted, can pns afford this? wouldn't it be better spent on much needed ground inprovements first and then maybe the team next season?
if pns have had a windfall it can only be good for grass roots football, it would be nice to see a peterborough based side that can climb out of the ucl div 1 to the bigger leagues above.

This subject is getting a bit boring now - knock a nought off the money paid so far in signing on fees and bonus etc. and you will still be too high. Our budget is less than a lot of clubs in our division and I would class as expenses cover.
The same source as our funding will also be putting money into improving the facilities to make them suitable for step 4 football - the 2 need to go hand in hand

Tommy - is Bainesy the only one that you've paid a signing on fee to then - 'cos that would take up most of your £2,000!!- including the payments due at Christmas and end of the season that is.
See the string in Div 1 forum called chronicle today.
What you class as "expenses cover" and what HMRC or indeed the UCL class as "expenses cover" may well be very different.
But hey ho - the price of success!!

Ho Ho Guys - this is the silly season and you boys are looking top of the class!
A little bit out of date there Yorkshireman - Mark Baines has decided to play for Stilton in division 2 of the Peterborough League this season as reported last week in the Peterborough ET.
Mrs Cooper is fine with the mortgage "hot gossip" only £42k taken out 17 years ago so looking sweet on that front - thanks for asking.
And thanks for the financial advice on "expenses" - please remember that we have to do the most travelling in division 1 this season (650 miles in total for away games) and have been very careful to ensure that the money paid will be in line with allowable levels - please don't believe everything you are told by lads wanting to big themselves up!

PNS had a comfortable 2-0 win tonight over a spirited Hampton side who acquited themselves well.
Still smarting from Saturday's reverse at Skegness, PNS blasted out of the traps and forced 6 corners in the first 5 minutes.
They had to wait until the 37th minute to take the lead with a Karl Gibbs shot from the edge of the area. The lead was doubled 5 minutes into the 2nd half with a Steve Phillips header from a Steve Paling cross after Karl Gibbs had hit the inside of the post with a 25 yard effort.
Hampton had few chances to trouble emergency keeper Patryk Gawrysiak who once again did a good job between the sticks and the game rather petered out with both sides content with their nights work.

PNS drew their final friendly of the season 1-1 with Whittlesey this evening. After a bright start from the visitors, PNS took control and Eddie Patten scored after 27 minutes when Whittlesey failed to clear a corner.
The 2nd half was much more even, with Whittlesey equalising on the hour with a James Pucillo penalty after a rash challenge on the edge of his box from Dave Beeney in the PNS goal.
Chances were few and far between after that and both sides will take positives from the game - PNS for their first half control against the wind and Whittlesey for how strong they finished and look like a side who will be back challenging this season in the Peterborough League
