When you have 2 side and not one club then your Reserves aint worth keeping. Yaxley Reserves were very poor and of no use to the first team at all. Clippo only has to recruit form the pboro league if he needs players replacing, with this due to it being a much higher standard then his own Reserve side.

It is really sad when a club starts to struggle like Yaxley obviously are and even sadder when the root cause is money. Players and committee members leaving, no Reserve side, no money and a ground like a bomb site but still a few good young players and resolute management.
Good luck guys and I know you are all good football people and hope you can turn a corner soon

I always think that "The Reserves" are the strength of a Club. Everybody needs twenty or so players that can "do a job".

I agree, but if there are no funds to pay for the team, what choice is there?

It seems they are damned if they do and damned if they dont.
As I understand it they are looking for the money to upgrade the ground and it might be that cutting the reserve team could be a way of raising that cash.
Not so much if they are going to get levelled with a fine for doing so.
That would also leave the problem of how the U-18's get from their team into the first team without it being such a huge leap.
Tough times for the Cuckoos. It would be nice to think that there is someone in the village capable of helping them out short term.

Sign of the times but I think that the Cuckoos Reserves side did get quite a few fines for different reasons at the end of last season. Heard in early April that they were going to fold from one of the First Team players at Leading Drove. It does make it a big step from U-18 to UCL Premier and Clippo will need all the help he can get from the " Silver Haired Twins " !

Im sorry to hear that Yaxley have folded but we did hear murmerings when they cam to play us. I have to disagree with you pborohero, i beleive a reserve team areworth keeping. Our first team called on our lads alot towards the end of last season which gace those lads picked a boost in confidence to know that they can step up and in the managers plans. You dont really need a lot of funding for a reserve team only mainly for a referee and the cost of lights in winter. We have taken the step of funding ourselves this season in an effort to save funds for the club and idea which was overwhelmingly agreed by all the players. We have put into place a few fund raising ideas to help as well. Like what GDB says " The Reserves are the strength of a club". Long may Reserve Teams last. May i wish good luck to all the Yaxley Reserve lads who may be looking for new clubs. Its a shame you have folded as it was always a good local derby when we played.

It is a same that Yaxley have withdrawn the res team from the forthcoming season, what are the costs for running a res team ? I have previously done it and was not aware of any great costs ? Are they for failing to produce a team on a sat as that is expensive ? Surely with a small match fee if needed, football card, beers, softdrinks, food and fans entry fee the res would pay for itself ? I also wish the guys from Yaxley the best for next season.

I see this has had the knock on effect of relegation for Bugbrooke SM reserve team to Res Div 2, seems a bit harsh.

i totally agree with jamesw that from the u18s to first team is a huge step and with a reserve team gives young lads an idea into mens football! also what about when a first team player has been injured for a long while there will be no reserve team for him 2 gain fitness and match minutes, it will be straight into the first team! i did hear that yaxley were gonna leave the ucl and go into p,boro league but im glad this did not materialise! its a shame this has happened 2 yaxley as they seem like a good club! good luck 2 all those at yaxley football club i hope the future is brighter for u!

Shape of things to come me thinks. The cash will gradually "dry up" in the UCL and many Clubs will look at cost savings on the playing side, especially with then having to spend a few hundreds (or thousands) on bringing their Grounds up to scratch. Who will be next?

Hi All,
Would like on behalf of Yaxley FC to state the reasons for dispanding the Reserve side for the forthcoming season and also rubbish the fact that people i see who write on here posting comments of doom and gloom surrounding the club.
Firstly, as a club we decided to dispand the Reserve Team mainly for Financial reasons, however, we have seen over the last couple of seasons a decline in both ability and being able to attract players to the club purely to play Reserve team football. The better players in Peterborough would rather play local Peterborough League Football without the travelling and time commitments associated to playing at this level than wanting to challenge themselves by starting in the Reserves and performing to a standard to get them noticed for a 1st team call up, this is sad but the way a high percentage of lads think about their football nowadays.
I also feel that attracting a a quality manager with coaching and a good pedigree to be a Reserve Team Manager is getting harder, as being a Reserve team Manager I feel is the hardest job of all at a club as you are never fully in control of team affairs and in todays climate have no expenses to work with.
The other main reason is because we have a very good U18 side coming through and felt personally as First Team Manager that I have a better chance of blooding these lads with their ability and potential than the players who currently played in the reserve side last year, the better players which were part of the Reserve Team are part of my squad this year but many of them were and still elligible to play in the U18 team this term.
Other clubs like stamford have not had a Reserve side but put faith in producing a good U18 side and produce 1st team players, I also like the fact that we have many talented youngsters currently in the U18 set up and the lads from our treble winning U16 side coming in to the squad are Yaxley based players, which for me is important to have locally homegrown talent coming through.
I would also like to comment on the doom and gloom everyone seems to be throwing at the club wether it's on this forum or comments to me personally or to other people at our club in relation to losing two or three players.
Yes we have lost the services of Andy Lodge and Liam Harrold to Deeping Rangers for a huge amount of money per week which we could not compete with and I am expecting to lose Dan Jacobs to either Deeping or Stamford Town, me personally would like to see Dan go to Stamford as believe he is good enough for the next level, but that's up to the lad. My best wishes go to all 3 of those players who have been excellent for me and are good lads. My feelings are that players come and go and is part of football, and I see this as an opportunity and a challenge for existing players who have been patient and also to bring in new players to the club.
All of my other players are staying and with a few expected signings we will be competing with everyone and be competitive be sure of that, so it's not doom and gloom and I feel that as a club we are looking forward to the challenges ahead. Off the field we have made some tough decisions for the good of the club, and have been focusing hard on fund raising to pull the club around and to protect the future of the club, and will continue to do so.
I am excited at the prospect of the challenge and making it four years in a row where we beat the eventual champions.
So hope that explains the decision of the reserve team and the doom and gloom merchants are updated accordingly.
Good luck to you all this season whichever club you are associated with.
Thanks
Clippo
