I don't want this tosound like ref bashing, because without the officials we currently have in UCL we would not have a game.
I just wanted to pass comment on the attitude of a couple officials I have experienced in previous weeks. One such official 2 weeks ago, was taking a bit of stick after a contentious decision and then preceeded to book and send off 2 players, neither of which made comments that were worse than any of the other comments thrown towards the official that day, my point being that if red was given for that comment it should have been given out to others long before. And also an official that played 67 minutes injury time after no injuries, missed 2 clear fouls and then when an equalising goalwas scored booked 2 players for their comments towards him.
Do we need to find some middle ground with officials, if they wish to have respect towards them, do they not need to give it to the players also???

I can recall S & L v Blackstones a few years ago which lasted one hour and forty five minutes. Kicked of at 7.30pm (should have been 7.45) and half time was at 8.30pm. The Stones won 2 - 1, the winner scored at 9.25pm, some ten minutes after the game should have finished with a 7.30pm kick off. Having said that the three officials were first class . . . . . . . . and didn't report the cold tea at half time.

Further to comments re referees. Lets face it there are some very good officials about but they are let down by their not so good counterparts. Watched one last week. He took a verbal bashing from a player in the first 5mins, did nothing! Book him man! you will then let the others know whats what. Also he let the home side kick the ball away all game then books an away player late in the game for the same offence. Where is the consistency? Also one linesman was given stick from both sets of fans for awarding a penalty for handball after the ball had hit the player smack on the chest, you could not make it up. Come on you guys in black I know it is not an easy job but lets get it correct.

All about opinions guys, one mans foul is another mans fair challenge.
Incidentally, I was at a UCL Prem game a few weeks ago where the centre forward (of some repute) put the ball over the bar from 3 yards, yet no one started a thread on here to vilify said player for his shocking performance!!
And 67 mins of injury time.....must have been a cheap watch :-)

To man in the middle. You are quite correct with your comments, why did you not start a thread? However my gripe is not so much the fair challenge/foul. It is for the officials to clamp down on the abuse and antics and in reality it must start in the Premier League. If they do not stop it in the man's game then the youngsters have no chance. Plus the FA and the county FA' must support the officials. I do worry that if a referee sent off 5 players for constant abuse( Man Utd and D'Uroso?) and abandoned the game there would be a riot and the FA would not support the man, though according to the laws of the game he would be correct.

I agree entirely (although for what it's worth I have been refereeing on the UCL for several years and I genuinely believe the standard of behaviour has improved considerably over the last couple of seasons...granted I'm only speaking from personal experience, others may say different...perhaps my hearing is starting to go).
It should start at the top.....I've long believed that if one referee (maybe even orchestrated by the FA) walked off the pitch during a premier league game after taking a volley of abuse from a player it would make headline news across the world and the problem would be almost solved overnight!! Perhaps I'm being overly cynical.
I personally have no complaints about the support we get from the FA and County FAs, if actions are reported then they are backed up with the relevant sanctions.
But you are absolutely right, football has an endemic problem in that what is seen on the tv at the highest level generally transfers to UCL football and beyond into kids football, which is very sad. I see the Shakhtar Donetsk chairman read the riot act to his players last week after their player scored that 'unsporting' goal from the drop ball, reminding them of their responsibilites as role models to kids....can't see Roman Abramhovic doing that!!!

Players at all levels need to simply remember that "The Ref isn't always RIGHT, but he's ALWAYS the Ref."
