Good reply UCL Cook. We just disagree about a few points.
Ianh, same. There's not a lot more I can respond with... we just disagree...
I think a vote by all members that have ten or more posts to their name from this point (9.30 sunday morning) will settle the issue. There are valid arguments for both outcomes. I would urge all members to read all of this topic and then vote for either members only view and post; guests view but not post, guests view and post (current situation).
I will leave the setting up of the poll to JtheC - incase he has any major issues with the suggestion

I am going along the lines that it should be members only but Guests should be able to view the message board topics etc, but have to become a member (register) to reply or view any of the opinions to any posts. I think thats fairer, if there veiws are that serious they will register. The message board is a bit to hidden at the moment.
Any thoughts?

FREEDOM OF SPEECH NOT JUST YOU WANT TO HERE.IF YOU BAN GUESTS IS IT WORTH HAVING A FORUM, YOU MIGHT AS WELL PUT UP A TOPIC AND LET THE SHEEP COMMENT. BORRRRRRRRING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! A perfect example of why it is tempting to make users register in order to post. In my opinion the "freedom of speach" argument is a load of rubbish, particularly as you are free to register. If you don't like the rules of these forums then tough, go elsewhere.

Freedom of speech in some cases means freedom to shout incoherent rubbish So for me Guests free to view but register to post gets my vote

Well, the recent action has succeeded in stopping any abusive posts.
It also seems to have succeeded in stopping just about ANY posts.

I agree KPM if we don't have guests than it will become stagnant. As for the morons the forum guardians need to respond quickly and delete them! Lets face it since my alter ego was removed from another fans forum it is now tediously boring, even the other nutters keep off it now. This forum should be of lifes rich tapestry not some plain carpet we occasionly wipe our feet on.

the problem is Skip that neither I nor the rest of the moderating team have the time to spend checking the forum every five minutes for inapropriate messages.
The other day I had to delete 11 for foul language and 5 for slanderous personal comments. At some stage my boss will notice.
If the net result of having no guests is that the forum dies then it will prove that not enough people were interested in UCL football to keep it going.

With all due respect, that is a poor attitude.

Yes, do it if you have time or the inclination, but as long as suitable caveats and disclaimers are on the front page, then the abusive stuff can stay as a testament to the posters' stupidity? Maybe evry so often you have a purge of the richard heads, do a whois? on their IP address and see if anything worth naming-and-shaming comes up.

We don't expect 24 hour surveillance or checking every 5 mins on the forum, thats unreasonable may be every 10 mins yes ;D ;D, only joking!! No seriously the Jed Ainge item did develop over period of 2 days where it could have been stopped the end of the first day. In any case it was a wind up and anyone of any importance, i.e UCL gang, would have seen it for what it was a pile of crap. I would think thats those responsible for it are laughing their socks at our over reaction to it. Please let go back how it was, everyone who's a guest see this as yellow warning and lets move on.

I strongly agree. I now have full moderating functions... and there isn't usually that much time in the day where either Me, Jimmy, or Ian aren't on the forum! We can handle a couple of morons!!!! Put it back JtheC

Reply to the Question thread....... I noticed that we had picked a few new members up since it was made members only! And some respectable members! Maybe members only is working! Could trial it with members only with guests being able to view the message board etc........ Like i said before.
