Raising Awareness of Bone Marrow Donation
Bugbrooke St Michaels FC – Tuesday 25th October
Help a patient find their life-saving Mr Right
If you are a man aged 18 to 30, you could be Mr Right for a patient in need of a potentially lifesaving transplant.
Anthony Nolan has launched its Get 10 campaign to get 10,000 young men aged 18 to 30 to sign up to its donor register.
Anthony Nolan saves the lives of people with blood cancer. The charity runs a register of remarkable donors who are willing to donate their blood stem cells to people who desperately need lifesaving transplants.
Men aged 18-30 are more likely to be chosen by transplant centres to donate, but they currently account for just 12% of donors on the Anthony Nolan register. That’s why more are needed.
Through its GET10 campaign, Anthony Nolan is urging men aged 18 to 30 to sign up as donors by visiting www.anthonynolan.org/spit or by attending GET10 Events
Although it’s specifically young men the charity wants to sign up to its register, older men and women can also play a huge role in helping boost the numbers of males aged 18 to 30 on the donor register.
Every day, Anthony Nolan helps two people with blood cancer to find a matching donor for a transplant. But for every person Anthony Nolan can help, sadly there is another for whom a match cannot be found.
That’s why the charity needs your help.
Bugbrooke St Michaels FC are hosting a GET10 Event on Tuesday 25th October.
Louise, a volunteer speaker for the Anthony Nolan Bone Marrow Trust will be delivering a powerful PowerPoint presentation to raise awareness of the process involved in stem cell donation and highlight the desperate need for more donors to consider registering in order to enable the life saving matches to be found.
We are hoping that our neighbouring clubs would be willing to support this event and come along to understand the powerful work that Louise and the Anthony Nolan team are doing around the country.
As explained above, the GET10 campaign focuses on 18-30 year old men, and where better to recruit this demographic, than Football and Rugby clubs around Northants.
This evening is not a fund raising event, but an event to raise awareness of the GET10 campaign, the amazing work that Anthony Nolan do, and how you can save lives.
Bugbrooke St Michaels FC have kindly offered to lay on some food, and of course the bar will be open after the presentation.
Please come along and support this event and spread the word to your friends, family and team mates.
If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact me by sending me a personal message.
I look forward to seeing you on the 25th.
Kindest Regards
Jim Harris
