i think your bang on there scully it is very hard to play against and it works both ways but as Burton have tried doing and have started to see the rewards its about having a balance of good young lads and a few older ones to feed the first and not all about winning the leage you must have seen it before were the second team has been full of older players just hunting pots i cant see were this helps any club , with the sums of money being kicked obout i would rather see a good young squad helping the first than splash out on players any time and i think frank has been a good exsample of this year after year.

SS you are absolutly right, having managed BSMFC reserves twice, it is a thankless job, where your season can be made or destroyed by the success of the 1st team. You always start out with a decent side but come December anybody that has the capability of winning matches for you gets soaked up by the huge sponge that is the 1st team. You always seem to be losing players to them, but nobody ever seems to come back the other way.
You are aware that you are a feeder club from the Under 18's to the first team, but any manager worth his salt still wants to bring success to the side they are managing, making it very frustrating when you are unable to field the same side each week.
It is a difficult job, but I would like to think that due to my experiance with the reserves I will try harder to make life easier for my reserve team manager, but all said and done I have to field the strongest 1st team ahead of any sympathys towards the reserves after all the sign across the door does not say the home of BSMFC reserves.
I must say going back to the original thread Cogenhoe's reserve team and Under 18's both won last season there has got to be a huge amount of young talent there.
As for you SS stick with it your day will come.

Storm , i like to do my research and do have alot of contacts , have heard Kempston Res are very good with some good young players from 18s ..Sorry you prob didn't want to hear that . Tad , thanks for the encouragement but i understand how it all works , infact my strengths shine through when the chips are down ...which as you say in the reserves is normally the case . Having said that we all know the score and are in the same boat . I will be OK this year ... Once i actually see some of the players from last year come back , IF they come back !!! As a new manager at a club you want to give the existing players first crack of the whip but we'll see . Anyway anymore tips for the top I've got another from RC he is only 15 but will be quality ...Ashely Gooden

I hope you are not going to play him SS as Fa rules forbid anyone under 16 from playing in open age group matches ! From the 2006-2007 FA Handbook C. RULES RELATING TO PLAYERS
(C) To play in an open age competition a player must have achieved the age 16, (to come in to effect from the 2007-08 season).
