So thinking about it recently long and hard to myself about cup games or a push for promotion In my honest opinion the possible promotion push has to be the clubs 1st priority hands down, then again wouldnt it be great to get abit of a cup run to help build character and confidence as well as the squad players getting to prove themselves!!........ tough one for me I know my choice.. However how would you play it...................

totally agree mb i happens in the football league with the carling cup when clubs play fringe players and res players with promotion at the top of the list - its a great chance for fringe players to show if they are good enough

Darren ,
I'm butting in mate , sorry
I recently took an u18s side to play Bourne Res in cup game , for a few different reasons . We lost the game 3 2 but i found out which players were ready to make the step up to the ressys .
At half time it was 1 all and i tried to motivate the young lads by saying that if they could go on and get a result then we'd do " a wenger " and they could all play in the next round !!! ,
We took the lead but then couldn't hold on , i was so gutted for the young lads most of which were playing mens footy for the 1st time
it wasn't to be but i don't regret doing it , the positives far outweighed the negatives ( i tell myself that anyway ) , and theres no real harm done
You are a first team manager though and it's more important for you , i can understand why your putting out the feelers .
You will be damned if you do and damned if you don't .
I have a feeling though that even before you started this thread , you already know what your going to do
All the best

I think you go for it in all competitions and expect you will have thought that yourself so looking forward to your strongest team as no doubt Joe will put out. Depending on some draws you can gauge how strong you need to be to with some luck get your win but that backfired on us last season against Kislingbury as SS will no doubt and has previously reminded us. Just dont come to hold out for a penalty shoot out.... ;D

i think that most clubs in div 1 would not enter this cup if possible as with the top 3 / 4 clubs who wants to get caught up in a cup that div 1 clubs are not really going to win
keep sat free for league matches
maybe there should be a ko cup just for prem clubs and one for div 1 clubs
county cups yes maybe as in hunts we can play these in midweek if possible

sorry havent been on this site for a while but was intrigued as to MB's post that he might send under 18s. Correct me if i'm wrong but in your first comment on here to start this thread you mentioned that it might help build a bit of character and confidence.........how the hell do you think putting lambs to the lions is gonna help that.
Now i know for a fact you have a decent ressies this season and so far MB you seem to have done a really good job up, there so why not put your ressies out mixed together with under 18s.
Surely as the first team manager you should be taking an interest throughout your whole setup not just the first team. Now dont take that as a dig as i totally agree you should be concentrating on getting promotion but you do need the rest of your club to be as close to your standard as you possibly can in order to provide continuity. after all its no good getting promoted then coming down a season or two later, and that in my opinion is more likely to happen if the standard behind you isnt good enough

Personally the league, junior cup are very important. The league cup i tend to give some fringe players a game. Played a mixed team in Hinchinbrooke Cup last night and the lads done great. Also the Vase was a great experience for us in which we were desperatley unlucky and that is a competition to take seriously as funds for the clubs are up for grabs. Each to their own though.

ye - tend to agree with you on that one ps, however the fa vase comes up really quickly in the season and we didnt have a settled side or certain players available on the day - same for everyone - would have prefered to have played it about now he says with a smile on his face.......

We take serious any cup we feel we can win and especially the ones where you can earn a few quid. Still nothing beats being in the Premier division.....so i guess get promoted mate, would be good to have huntingdon in the same league.

Well now confirmed as a 1pm KO in Wellingborough and looking forward to it. This time last season we lost on Penalties to Raunds and went on to win the league. Who knows if that exit was good or bad but the season was a one off so take positives. Big game like this between hopefully 2 title challengers gives you a chance to assess competition for the league games so everyone will learn something regardless of the outcome. Game on in the bar afterwards so should be a good day.
