Ok, time for us to have a bit of closed season activity. I am looking for reviews of the UCL Prem Clubs websites. Here is the brief... "It has been noted by a couple of people on this forum that the UCL Premier Division club websites range from the very good, to the not so good.
We are not here to fire criticism out in all directions but I would like to think we can give our clubs some advice and pointers on where they can improve their service to their fans.
So let's all have a glance through them (there is a sticky thread with direct click through links to all teams sites) and use this thread for some adult discussion.
After all, one of the prime mission statements for this site has been to try and 'promote' the UCL to people in this region who don't even know it exists." There are a couple of issues which I know are important to contributors on here... - Updated News
- Accurate Fixtures Information
- Match Reports/Results.
Other stuff like forums and photos are luxuries, in my opinion. But over to you guys...

Having a message board is good and gets people returning to your site. If you have your own paid webspace (ie. not the 'free' hosting) install it on your site for more control [[insert cheap plug for Ikonboard here]]. Though if you're going to have a message board it's important to get a balance between having some control and being 'heavily moderated'. Too little control on the board and all hell may be let loose, too tight control and nobody posts as they feel any comments seen to be negative will just be deleted. I personally opt to having a couple of forums with 'guest posting enabled' for general discussion but require people to register to post in the other forums. I generally don't edit or remove posts, I think I've only locked or removed a handful of threads in the five years the board has been running.
The website is a powerful tool for local football clubs. It can be used to advertise fixtures, events, facilities, sponsorship, and generally get the community/fans interested. In the past few months I've setup a section on StNeotsFC.net for the new development and its progression, as it is of local interest, and will hopefully keep people returning regularly to the site.
Having a reasonable coding knowledge I took the step last year of powering the fixtures & results from a database, which saved me a lot of times as several pages are controlled from this database (home page, fixtures, results, individual team sections). In addition the database also stores news articles and now last seasons results table is being used for the archive. I've now setup a new table on the database for the next season and in the next few weeks I'll be adjusting the relevant pages to take the information from new table.

i though the thread was set up to review UCL websites (hence the title) not to discuss the benefits of having one and the workings of his own?

Go on then Cuckooman, why don't you allocate websites across the usual suspects and any other volunteers on here and we'll go away and review them? Maybe set up a sub-board for the reviews?
Also maybe someone could find out if clubs who DON'T have a website have any plans to launch one?

Don't you think we should be a bit further-reaching than that?
And also there's a few more regulars who could act as reviewers.
I'll do a table of sites then you can decide who will review them and set up a consistent "scoring" profile.
Or is this taking it a bit too seriously?

Eynesbury Rovers don't have a website and haven't had one for years, despite what Mitoo says. I think there is 2 areas of reviewing for websites, 'end-user' and 'technical'. 'End-user': Is how the website appears to the end-user. This side of things covers areas such as how easy it is for them to use and find what they are looking for. 'Technical': Is how well the website is physically written/coded. This side of thing sees whether the website passes validation, and accessibilty (eg. if users is using a screen reader, if javascript is disabled). The two areas whilst can be seperated are somewhat connected. For instance viewing the site in different browsers covers both aspects, as if parts don't work using a non-IE browser it causes issues for the end-user. HTML Validator: validator.w3.org
