First and foremost - I want to make it absolutely clear that I know how much work is involved in producing and maintaining a web-site. I'm looking at the websites I said I'd review as though they were for a League 2 or Conference club. Possibly a little harsh, but that's the way I'm looking at it, and to be honest, if I was doing a club website I'd find the one I thought was best and mercilessly pillage it! Anyway, the point is that I don't want any of the webmasters to feel hurt or insulted or unduly criticised by my comments.
So - Buckingham Town. First impressions are that this is a site produced by an enthusiastic fan, but one who really knows what they are doing - a really good site.
What I Liked
Like Boston Town, everything seems to be there. The front page gives you what you need quickly and the navigation is directly from the left hand menu bar (in most cases). Lots of good historical and archive stuff to look at. Can't comment on the match reports or player info because there isn't any there yet. I always like seeing clubs put general league info on their sites, so visitors can see who else is in the league. Plenty commercial stuff. Really liked the Programme archive.
What I Didn't Like
Again, not much missing, so these points will seem extremely picky
Maybe more news and a news archive?
An archive of player info and match results/reports?
Some pages don't have the left-hand menu bar for easy navigation (told you it was picky)
Members-Only message board - I know why they did this, but I think that members-only tends to restrict and sanitise the depth of opinion. I know you get idiots posting utter garbage, but I think there's a fine balance, which is difficult to achieve.
No link to UCL Chatter (....yet!)
Scores
1. Ease of use and navigation - 8
2. Scope, breadth and quality of information - 8
3. Quality and bias of match reports (probably difficult at this time of year) - n/a assume 7
4. Overall impression of technical quality, look, feel etc - 7
5. Commercial aspects (does it help raise money for the club?) - 10 excellent
6. Editorial quality (does it read well?) - 8
7. Overall score (add up the scores and divide by six) - 8
Summary - another good site which gives you all you need to know about the club
Please feel free to argue with my scoring.....
