A very black mark against the very poor sportsmanship from Huntingdon's stiffs.
Losing the game 1 -0 in the last minute a Huntingdon player sustained a routine injury and the game was restarted with a drop ball which had been agreed to be played back to the Cogenhoe goalkeeper as The Cooks were in possession when the game was stopped. The ball held up in the wind and a Huntingdon player chased the ball down and played it in to the net unchallenged.
Result 1 -1 - Huntingdon and football the massive losers!
The match referee was distraught but powerless to take any action, he even kindly rang Cogenhoe to offer his apologies on Saturday evening.

as chairman of HTFC i would like to send my apologies to the cogenoe team for the last minute goal on sat in the ressies teams defence i must say that the game was played in very good sprit and the actions of one player should not be held against the other players who where as shocked as i was and the management over the goal we have spoken to the player concered and now the matter is closed on our part

If the Huntingdon players were shocked and the referee distraught why didn't they just let Cogenhoe kick off and dribble the ball straight into the goal to win 2-1?

Its a stupid rule ( well its not even a rule) and the sooner the FA scrap it the better. It causes nothing but problems for officials and players alike. No one knows who to give it back to who and more often than not its booted out for a goal kick which is no advantage to anyone. The laws states that a game to be re-started with a drop ball so why the hell they ( The FA) go back to that law!!! It would save a hell of lot of hassle.

What change something that encourages fair play and normally gets a round of applause?
I think Huntingdon need to take a hard look at themeselves, fine and suspend the player/ players involved and concede the return match (if it hasnt already been played) so the points are awarded to Cogenhoe.

The answer is really simple - the FA and Referees Association needs to agree an instruction that in the event of a dropped ball in these circumstances, if anything other than the ball going to where it is intended happens, the referee orders the drop to be retaken (and if the player does the same thing is cautioned for unsportsmanlike conduct)

this happened in the last 30 seconds of the match and as soon as the match was re-started the ref blew up for full time so no time to let cogenhoe score a goal as i said we have spoken to the player and its up to the league on any course of action not us

I'm sure that if it was suggested the Cooks could have an uncontested winner i'm sure the referee would of been happy to allow the 5 seconds it takes to score it.. the fact is i don't think someone who shows such poor sportsmanship would allow such a thing. Especially if he was as "distraught" as it was made out in the first post. I think your keeper should have been allowed to score it! ;D

There is little point in allowing play to stop for the injury in the first place, and any dropped ball would have to be 'contested' if we are all to adopt a matter closed approach. It is very poor sportsmanship at best.
This is somehting that falls into the RESPECT programme category.
It is a shame as Cogenhoe's Reserve side is main young lads, what an example to set them!
