Taken from the 1st team manager's blog on the website. I know he probably wont appreciate me posting on his behalf, and considering we dont always agree - we do on this front: -
"This is my third term as a manager of BSMFC, twice before with the reserves and I am now in my 4th year as 1st team manager. Prior to that I spent many seasons here as a player. This club is my home and where I feel I belong. I must say in all my time here this last month has been the most enjoyable.
Bugbrooke St Micheals is a really happy place to be at the moment, there is a real vibrance at the club, a real buzz. Not because we think we are going to win promotion, not because we have have won every game and are sitting top of the league, we are not. Just because everyone at the club is enjoying themselves and enjoying each others company.
We are a modest club, we celebrate our successes, we congratulate our oppenents when we lose, we try to be hospitable at home and grateful away. We try to play the game with honesty and grace. we are not proffesionals, we do not make a living from football, we attend everyone of us; players, committee, management, helpers and supporters alike because we love the game of football and choose this as our form of leisure, our past time and our escape from the weekly grindstone.
We have a large refurbished clubhouse with modern changing facilities, vast playing fields to allow all of our teams to play and train and a main pitch that is a delight to play on. In the last 5 years we have worked hard to meet the demands of the FA and UCL to meet ground and facility rising standards. We did not ignore them, we did not cut corners or whine, we rolled up our sleeves and set about fund raising, begging and borrowing to meet all the required criteria. Our football ambitions took a back seat, we did not look to bank roll promotion, we did not look for players to bring in from afar, at a huge weekly expense to drain to our bank account. We improved our youth system, we encouraged our youths to want to play for BSMFC and we looked within our own club for players to play in our 1st team.
It was hardwork and it was tedious and for a long time there was no light at the end of the tunnel. We have come out the end of that tunnel now and all the hard work has paid off. We have a team that has played together for years and when we need players we have 3 adult teams and an U18 to feed from. The 1 or 2 new players that we do get each season fit in with us and appriciate what we have here and they come here not for money, but because this is where they want to be. Over the last few seasons many of our players have turned down good offers from other clubs and the a few who have left have returned, because like me they see BSMFC as their club and as their home.
Now people are starting to take notice of what we have, and in a time of global recession when our new commercial manager Kevin Brown went seeking sponsors he found them to the tune of £30k over the next three years, not to mention his own company Hi Force becoming the clubs kit sponsor.
Most clubs promised 30k over a 3 year period would instantly spend that on bank rolling promotion, buying in players for 1 season..... But we are not most clubs, we are BSMFC and our new aim as a Community Club is to offer free footbal to all of our 17 teams, senior and youth alike, to build on what we all ready have and to remember that we are a grass roots football team and that lasting success is built on good firm foundations. Foundations that when our current 7 year olds put on a 1st team shirt will still be here in place.
Our senior players and our Under 18's are looking forward to this weekend when we will all be wearing our new Hi Force branded kits, and like we have for every game this season we will meet with a smile on our faces to participate for a club we are proud to be at, a club that is a modern day success story. With a smile on our faces we will play and enjoy the game and our Saturday afternoons, and whilst enjoying our football the 1st team are on the back of two league 5 - 1 wins and the reserves are sitting top of their league undefeated. After all they say success breeds success"
