Paul Scully has stepped down as first team manager after the disappointing 2 1 defeat to Olney last weds evening. Scully told the players immediately after the game the reasons why but urged them to go on a fulfill their potential for the new manager... The club were very disappointed with Paul's resignation after all the hard work he had put it in and helping the club through a turbulent period but respected his decision and the foundations he has set with a young first team and the youth teams coming through. The new manager will be Kev Fox who was recommended to the Burton board by his predecessor and the club believe is a fantastic appointment to be able to make so soon in time for next Saturday's home game v Huntingdon. Fox has been coaching at Thrapston in recent seasons and the club believe he is the right man for the job who will find success and continue with the vision that has seen many changes happen at the club in the last year or so. Fox has bags-full of pro playing experience as an outstanding goalkeeper at high profile local clubs within the county and plenty of local semi pro football coaching and management experience behind him in more recent years within the UCL. Much thanks to Paul for setting Burton on their way with a new vision for the future and good luck to Kevin with the similar huge task in hand in turning it into a success. Burton Park Wanderers currently lie bottom of Division One (The table does lie ;D) and as many of you know, it is a tough league to blood young players who are looking for the opportunity to play at this level. BPW are committed to giving young local players a chance and will continue to do so.BPW, even though without their own ground at this moment in time (share with Rothwell Town at Cecil Street) now operate 22 teams from mini kickers who join at 3 years old and go right through the ages up to adults. A strong, structured and united committee work together promoting the right kind of football principals within the game and community... and costing still only 3 quid to get in for adults (kids free) and with the best burgers cooked this side of Texas, its worth a visit Cmon the Wanderers

All the best to what appears to be a super community club @ BPW with all those teams. I think that kind of set up deserves support however with no U18's at Northants senior youth level and no reserve team in the UCL it’s a heck of a jump for young players perhaps?
Its hard to bring in young players into a side that are bottom of the table and perhaps unrealistic to think that like all players successful at youth level will not except the same as they step up.
The recent history of BPW has seen them struggle with the standard of UCL and made me think why don’t they regroup in the combination and step up again when they have a structure at adult level?
Not a criticism, marvelous they have stuck at it but more of a thought of creating a winning culture, enjoy some success and then come back stronger?

Some good points made Cookie but the season is still young with many games left to play and the league table may look a lot more healthier for BPW by the time the season finishes.
Dropping into the combination i would imagine is the last resort for any club. No offence to the combination but the UCL is the place to be.
BPW do have an under 18s team but in the Sunday league. I would say that the standard is not too far below the midweek league but i would agree the Northants u18 midweek is very good and gives young players that 'under the lights' experience which is vital.
'Reserve Teams' now this is an interesting subject. With money at an all time low coming into local football and the costs of running teams at an all time high, it could be argued that 'Reserve Teams' are on the way out as clubs cannot afford them.
Good point you make about the jump in level and your right, it does not happen straight away even though some players do adjust instantly and they are the little nuggets that will take the club forward.
I have been told that BPW already have plans in place for an extra team in the Combination this year to act as a buffer between the youth set up and the first team as well as provide football for those lads that are too old for the under 18s team but are not good enough yet for the first team. These plans are part of the overall vision of the club.
Cookie, the points you make are good and valid, and in line with what outsiders may perceive or read between the lines at first glance of results and performances etc etc.
But i would say this..
The club is working hard and going places considering its perilous position in the summer and i have also watched every game this year. Bugbrooke game apart i think you will find that many people who have seen the team play will tell you that its a good young team that is not far away from doing well. As we all know, its a fine line in this league between winning and losing.
It is very early days in the life of the new BPW, so id encourage fans to watch this space...
It is a great club with good people who do not just have community spirit in mind but a determination to be successful also.
Nobody wants to be bottom of the league
BPW do not want to finish in the bottom 3/4 every season and while that will happen this season again, the changes and vision the club has has been born out of a determination to not seeing it happening again after this season.
I would encourage any young player out there locally who is good enough to do well at this level to join BPW.

I to would like to thank Paul for all his hard work and not only building a platform for the new manager but also helping a club that was going no where to a club with a healthy future.
Cookie I/we fully understand your comments and thank you for your support.
This is and will continue to be a massive project for all involved and i can see why people may have the same views to you but is it not in the face of adversary that you see the true strength of people, It would have been the easy route for any club to take to step down as a few have all ready but we truly believe we owe it to all our members and football its self to push to compete at the highest level possible.
Like BPW says the table doesn't lie but it can fib a little I believe we are not the worst side in the league and we are not in the worst position of the Field by a long stretch.
We have no debt in fact the opposite we have nearly 200 members without associate members, there is hopefully some very positive news about the ground just around the corner.
With what is happening in football at the moment my belief is that clubs run such as Burton and a few more will eventually be the Lynch pin for local football and there will be a few very nervous people at other clubs that are not being run so well.

I think Bugbrooke have a team or teams in the combination, could be worth a chat with them for some advice on that Mr Salako.. What Burton are putting in place seems kinda similar to that of Bugbrooke few years ago... Huntingdon 2moro 3pm kick off ? Couldn't make the Eynesbury midweek game but heard we battled well and it was cruel blow to lose the 2 goals in stoppage time... Thats kinda of been the story so far Mr Salako, good times just around the corner id say

Paul sad to see you have resigned, hopefully we will meet up again somewhere before the season ends.
You are correct we have 2 teams in the combination, guaranteing adult football for everyone that comes up through the youth set up regardless of their ability. Unfortuantley you have to put them in the Combination Reserve League. The Reserve Prem is ok, but the other Reserve Divisions are very poor quality.
I would suggest you put your U18's in the Senior Youth West League, this is a strong competitive league, with opposition from U18's of mainly UCL teams. Your U18s will benefit, your 1st team will benefit. You will find as we have that the transgression is easier for the youngsters going to grounds they have played at before.

I am liking the postive outlook, time and effort being placed in to BPW and developing youth.
So many clubs are happy recycling the same average UCL players. (Glad to say I am/was not one of those mainly because I was/am not even that good).
As I mentioned one a previous post, seeing local young talent filter through and become good UCL players and higher is what all estbalished UCL clubs should be doing.
Good luck to BPW and all that have/are involved in there project. Played and been managed by Kev Fox so can agree I man with a wealth of experience.

Alright Tad, ill let him know as hoping to see him 2moro. The youth league you talk about, am i right in thinking thats the midweek league ? That presents a problem due to ground situation. The kett/corby under 18s league on a Sunday afternoon is pretty decent and we have a team in that but agree the midweek league is the mustard. ttfe, great comments and i agree. Why don't you get yourself over to Cecil 2Moro and cheer a local team on that is building from the bottom up and is still in its infancy as a new merged club that has risen like a Phoenix from the flames since the summer ( sorry a bit cheesy but true ;D ) Always looking for new fans and new people to help and the support the club. The burgers and hot dogs served up at home games are worth the couple quid entrance fee alone. They are massive and you wont need to eat again till Sunday lunch. BPW, defo worth a watch if your at a loose end and everybody made to feel welcome. Good luck to Kev 2Moro in his first official game in charge

BPW, I still playing so coming to watch BPW's on a Sat afternoon would be a struggle for this at least.
However after reading the result from this Sat and how the scoring went, well it sounded like a cracking game. I will now be watching out each week for you guys and your results.

Good stuff and yes was a cracking game. Well done to Kev in his first game and to the lads who have enjoyed rare flashes of good fortune for a change this season. Good to see Scully over watching and supporting the lads too, he was as loud as ever even if not gaffer anymore, although he has promised to be quiet from now on ;D The game itself was a game of two half's 3 nil up at halftime and Hunts looked good every time they went forward and restricted to BPW to little at the other end. 2nd half was a blinder if your a BPW fan as the boys got after their opponents with a purpose. Some good fortune came our way a little in the shape of a pen being awarded at one end but not the other and Hunts also hit the bar near the end but no-one could deny that the BPW lads deserve credit for a great comeback which was topped with a worthy winner with the BPW winning goalscorer beating 2/3 players and curling the ball past the keeper from the edge of box... The dentist chair celebration summed up what that goal meant to everybody involved with the club as the roof nearly came off the tea room hut thing. Great start for Kev as manager and hopefully he can continue this forward. The club has lots of potential and financially in a sound position. Hunts looked a good side but certainly imploded a little 2nd half and they will be disappointed with that. Was great to see the under 8s out at the beginning of the match doing the mascot thing and playing a little 5 a side at half time... Number 7 looked dynamite for the U8s I also went and watched the U18s on Sunday afternoon and they won also and have some good lads ready to come through the system. With everything that the club has been through in the last year and where the club is going, all is needed is a few more wins before the end of season and a bit more concrete news on the ground front and it will have been an unbelievable transitional rebirth period for the club.. Happy days C'MON the Wanderers ;D

R&H 1 BPW 2 Whats the saying about waiting for a bus then two come along ;D Good job well done today for Kev and the lads. Not the prettiest game ever seen but it ebbed and flowed and was worth a watch. Great to see the BPW lads beginning to fulfill their potential as they gain more experiance... If the club can get some more concrete news on the ground situ then the boys could be huge dark horses next season...so many good young lads. Have to say that i have heard that the UCL committee have been unbelievably supportive in giving the club time to get sorted. The league obviously recognizes the huge potential and progress that has been made. Great to see a surprise visitor today in the stands behind the Burton dugout in the shape of Joe Smyth. Great to see him and Scully having some old time banter while they both talked a good game from the back of the stand But they were defo supporting the Wanderers Overheard Joe saying he is moving back to the area and is looking to get back involved in football and possibly at Division One level and with his old number 2 now in the hot seat at Burton, could he be about to join BPW Me thinks not for some reason but if hes looking to get back involved then i imagine plenty of interested parties from this league in the area. Anyway, next game at home to Bucks on Weds night at Cecil street and well worth a visit if your not busy... The burgers are like half a cow in a roll and the hot dogs go on forever... Just like the legs on the lovely girls who work in the tea hut, wait till you seem them Get down there for a look CMON THE WANDERERS Was you at the game today Mr Salako ?
