Me and my dog were at olney town this weekto watch the clash between themselves and Burton Park Wanderers and I've seen Burton a few times season and they handled most teams this season with relative ease, though they have improved this season by a million miles I still have not witnessed a team who play better football than Olney. I don't know what it is they put in the water there but there Keeper was fantastic, defence was strong organised and comfortable on the ball, midfield strong and passing rings round the burton players, and the strikers movement was the best I have seen from a front 2 or 3, great to watch, unlucky Burton, I will most defenately be attending the Thrapston vs Olney game. Great to finally see an open league with some fantastic football being played! My tip for the league was the Badgers at the start of the season but Thrapston or Olney will take the crown this year, what do you think?

hhhmmm an optimistic biased Olney fan by any chance......
You have had some great results up until now and have every right to gloat. I have seen them twice this season and I have to agree they have been excellent and played some really good stuff.
However..... As the pitches get muddier and the weather gets worse will they be able to compete with the physical demands of this league... The jury is still out and from what I have seen they wont. Dont get me wrong they are a great footballing side but have they got the experience or battle to finish in the top 3, I think not......

I think they are a really good side with pace and strength , out of all the teams we have played this season I believe they could compete in the prem, not the top half but defo wouldnt finnish bottom 6.

My neighbour currently plays for Burton Park Wanderers! I am neither a fan of Burton or Olney... i am just interested in good football which Olney played last week.
I hope there is a team out there who can compete with the likes of Olney as it will make Div 1 a better league to play in and people like me to watch!

I'm not sure about that Gary Wilmot (john salako lookalike ), you only have to look at how much irchester and pns had to invest in the team from the previous seasons they had in div1 to be able to compete competently in the prem to see that there is a big jump. Take Rothwell Corinths for instance as a recent example. Consistently finished well placed in div one over a period of time during Franks reign but absolutely nowhere anywhere near it in the prem since they been in. That is not a criticism of the sargeants lawn outfit but rather the honest brutal facts of the jump. Any divison one team as it stands at this moment in time in div one would finish in the bottom 6 of the prem in my expert (and i am) opinion. Possibly the top 3/4 clubs of div one with a hefty investment in player budget maybe be able to challenge that opinion.

Would agre that if PNS gone into the Prem with same team week in and week out as had come runners up in division 1 last season we would be nearer the bottom six than the top 6 though probably in neither.
Difference is that there are no easy games and you can't ever take your foot off the pedal - pace of the game is a lot quicker and we are thankful that we moved to a generally much younger and quicker squad - which costs broadly the same, though we have more games to cover which is why the budget is higher

Maybe I was a bit judgemental, (Caught me on an off day!!... Sorry Olney Fans) any team that promotes the league by playing good football deserves to be up there somewhere. Its great that a few teams in this league are trying to play football and trying to change the leagues' reputation of kick and rush football.
I think the point I was trying to make is teams that at least try and play football can they adapt over the winter months and battle through the mud, cold and scrappy games?

To be honest, olney players/fans and ucl chatter don't really click, I have only just become a member myself but I often checked the site and I don't remember a time this season or last year where they have been on here. They must just be going quietly about there job. Again that's great credit to them. But I do know what you mean about the winter months but if they can play good football then I'm sure they have a plan b up there sleeve, I'm told it's a new manager down there this year with new and fresh ideas so let's just see where they are come February. My bet easily top 3 still. Unless they have like you say a tough winter with fair weathered players! Good luck to all teams over the weekend (if your games are on)

Im an Olney fan and I think Olney have a great chance at winning the league! They have been the better side against almost every team they have played.......although i do feel that the league isn't as good as it once was. I have yet to see kempston, thrapston or rothwell play yet though so maybe they will give Olney a better run for there money!!
