I think its about money, and none of our clubs have as much as you. We will always think we would be spending it much better than WTFC have done, and we don't like any team thinking the UCL isnt good enough for them.
To be fair I havent got that impression too often from the WTFC fans on here, and I do wonder what we will have to moan about if you do go up!!!

Our friend with the inflated figures for WTFC is actually not far out - a month that is!! I do not usually get sucked into answering some of the rubbish that is expressed on here regarding the Doughboys. However, rumouring that we pay £2,500 a WEEK on players is complete and utter nonsense. Woodford were paying around £1,200 a week last season and we are WELL below that figure. Indeed, I know for a fact that there is at least one other UCL Prem club paying more per week than we are and even one in Division One is on a similar budget - and it doesn`t take a genious to work out who that is!! I have been with a few clubs as a player, coach and manager and can tell you in all truth that WTFC is one of the best run on and off the field that I have been involved with. ALL monies are raised through gates, sponsorship, advertising etc., and not one person is putting his hand in his pocket - apart from a few of us who have clubbed together to purchase a new toilet block and sponsors` lounge which we need to go up. I have never known a more hard-working or dedicated bunch of people as those involved at the Dog & Duck and, just to clear up another point raised in another debate, WTFC WOULD only need to finish in the top three to gain promotion - that is because of the newly-formed UniBond division for next season. However, if there are sufficient clubs to fill the vacancies elsewhere finishing as champions, then teams finishing second or third would not be considered - although that is highly unlikely to happen. I hope this clears up one or two points raised. From my experience of the UCL (including my playing days in it back in the 70s and 80s!), the league would miss WTFC if and when we gain promotion as there are no others who take so many fans to away games, adding to visiting clubs` coffers through the bar, gate and programme sales. Steve Whitney Football Chairman/General Manager WTFC I think the problem is that too many people from within WT want to discuss with their work mates etc what they get and what the club is doing and as a result you end up with potentially inflated figures that then creates resentment in some quarters. For one, I am happy to say that Whitworths have been a beneficiary as a result of the re-emergence in a number of ways, not enough to pay anyone any money though and I am sure that many other clubs have enjoyed some financial benefit. That said, the UCL have put time aside for play-offs at the end of the season as they did last season that would only likely involve Premier Champions and who (because I don't know) in the 1st Div pays over a grand in wages? Whoever it is is not getting value for money

Not according to Tony Kempster, who probably knows more about this than old baldy www.tonykempster.co.uk/maps07-08.htmSo it looks like Wellingborough will need to finish first or second to gain promotion.

That actually agrees with what GG says So it looks like Wellingborough will need to finish first or second to gain promotion. and where it says that, is under assumptions, which is by definition an educated guess. I agree that there probably will be enough clubs for the FA to only look at 1st and 2nd places but they have said that if needed they would take any down to 3rd and if the league agreed, they would consider taking more than 3 (although you would need to be wearing cloth caps and breeding Whippets for that to happen ;D)

We had plenty of vitriolic claptrap aimed at out club last year in Division One. I said then, I hope we get promoted to leave all that jealousy behind. He are we are, our first season in the Prem and we still get more than our fair share of OTT flak. Is it because our fans just love our team? I thought the same applied to all club fans, obviously not. Nevermind, we will soldier on. "Come on then my luverly jubberly Doughboys"

Regardless and it is only my opinion, but WT will need to win the league (unlikely) and meet grading requirements (working hard to achieve) and they are the only team to seek promotion so I predict no moves out of Prem this season and maybe no moves up into the Prem either

I think it would be a shame if clubs were not promoted, both potton and St Ives have done well since being promoted and for those teams that come down it gives them a chance to re group! well thats my opinion anyway heheheh ;D
