As the reserves in general never get too much coverage I thought I'd start a thread that will hopefully get a discussion going. With the season only a few games old, how does everyone think their reserves are fairing?
Kings Lynn, unsurprisingly look the strongest side so far, blackstones are always there or there abouts but there have been some surprising results so far. I notice eynesbury beat kemspston yesterday who usually have a strong squad. Have eynesbury improved or kempston weakened/had players missing. Thrapston and cogenhoe look good again. Huntingdon town are much improved on last season, putting their faith in youth with a good blend of experience in there. In division two, early season strugglers are bourne town, boston town and burton park. Can these teams pick up players as they go through the season. Bugbrooke, harborough and eynesbury look to be the sides to beat in that league. Thoughts?

It was not only Eynesbury in Res Cup group 2 who beat higher grade opposition in Kempston but Olney beat Whitworth and Rushden & Higham beat Wellingborough for a clean sweep of wins for Res Div 2 sides against their 1st division opponents

its good to see a message on the reserves section, bit early to call, but in Div Two, Bugbrooke will definitely be competitive, and i expect to see them there or thereabouts... but i think it will be fairly tight all round... it was good to see three shocks, and it took a 85th minute for S&L to beat Harborough in a fairly tight match, that was spoilt by a shocking ref, result could have gone either way

There's ways of speaking to people pal! Don't be so rude hiding behind a made up name. I missed out Rushden, so if you don't mention something it can't be wrong, that my friend is fact. Fair point on Burton, but everything else I have said is fact.
Skitzo, I reckon we couldve gone a whole season without too many mentions of the reserves sides. Has the gap between div 1and div 2 sides finally decreasing? Or with the first teams improving and budgets increasing is it inevitable that some reserves sides will become stronger?
As a side note, what other cups do all reserve teams enter into?

How can you agree your wrong then have an argument that every thing else you said is correct, maybe I found the piece you had wrong insulting and speculative at best. And that's twice you have jumped the gun and been wrong on this thread my name isn't made up Do you want to start again

Huntingdon Town Reserves got their first league win of the season last night with a convincing 5-2 win ove league new boys Thrapston Town. Thrappo started the game the better of the two sides and went ahead after a mistake from the town defence.
After that however, Hunts grew in stature and made Thrappo look a very ordinary team and dominated proceedings. The back 4, midfield and front two all working as a well oiled unit and it was only through miscommunication that Thrappo managed to pull a goal back. The game was topped off by a wonder strike from Adam Lacey.

good to see Lacey getting some game time. I remember trying to man mark him at 5 a side a few years back and he ripped me to shreds. I hope he puts pressure on a few of the first teamers as he is a great player who always tries hard

Huntingdon Town's second string got exactly what the deserved yesterday against an unspectacular yet effective Blackstones. From the first whistle to the last, Town were second best and never really got a grip on the game and played into the hands of the visitors rather than concentrating on playing to their own strengths.
Basic errors and ill discipline was the order of the day for town with all three goals arguably being down to individual errors with players not marking, not stepping up on the line or giving away silly free kicks.
Town did briefly get back in to the game with a penalty from winger Carl Foreman but they never looked like threatening with the forwards starved of the ball for long periods.
A lesson for this new, young Huntingdon side, one I'm sure they will bounce back from. One performance doesn't define a season and I'm confident the boys will bounce back from this one. Fair play to Blackstones to playing to their strengtsha and it has to be said the three points was deserved.

Watched Olney reserves v Raunds reserves yesterday and both teams tried to play football as it should be. They both have a mixture of young and not so young, good and not so good players and players who think they are better than they are (Olney goalkeeper). Olney edged an entertaining game 4:3.

Very honest write up fish. I think in div 2, I can only go on what I've watched over the years, is a bit hit and miss with some decent sides and some poor sides so I think your summary is probably spot on.

Div Two is beginning to open up a bit, but most impressive result has to go to Bugbrooke on beating Irchester Utd 6-0, who had been 100% until that game... they seem to be the side to beat, scoring at win and not conceding
Can anyone stop them?
