Cant believe ive only just seen this subject, and laughed at the crap that has been written on here. Lets just say I had very close connections with the reserve side at St Neots when they were disbanded, and I feel I need to put a few things straight.
First of all, it was not financial reasons why they were suddenly given the boot.
I was at the meeting at the very start of the season when the owner, and the 1st team manager along with various club members when quite a few promises were made.
They promised that the reserves will be treated as a part of the club for the first time in many years.
They promised support from the 1st team squad, and gave us 4 fringe players to build our squad around.
Now the truth - 3 days before the start of the season , the 1st team manager went back on his word, and sent 2 of the 4 players out on loan, kept one for himself and only left us a goalie. Now you can imagine how difficult it is to find 3 strong players in key positions a couple of days before the start of the season. We had to go out and buy all our own training equipment, such as training balls, bibs, cones, warm up tops etc. Can you believe that?On top of that not a penny to give the lads in petrol money for travel costs. There was no communication, as the 1st team manager decided to totally ignore us, as did the owner.
The problem we faced,is that we were a reserve side with no budget, playing in the Pboro Premier League, in which the top sides are paying out some serious money, so trying to attract the better players to come and play for a reserve side for nothing proved almost impossible. I know for a fact the reserve team manager was paying the lads petrol money at times from his own pocket.
Then they stopped us using u18 players in our squad because they play Thursdays, and were concerned they were playing too much football, then went and sent them out on loan at places like Yaxley and Ely and said it was needed for their development.!!
They didnt want anything to do with us and pulled the plug on it, then wrote a complete book of lies to justify their decision. Yes I am bitter in the way they treated all of us, including the players, and the league, who reluctantly let the club put the team straight into the prem.
So, may I on behalf of the reserve team apologise for the way the club showed total disrespect to the league. We were promsed quite abit, but given nothing.
