Rushden & Higham Utd 3 v 3 Rothwell Corinthians
R&H were first to attack and Corinthians keeper Adam Smith can consider himself lucky that the referee only showed him a yellow card when he brought down Craig Harrower just outside the penalty area without another defender in sight. The lankies took the lead after fourteen minutes when Tyler Merries long throw was played back to him and his cross found Mark Weekley free at the far post to head home. R&H failed to build on this and the visitors came more into the game as the interval approached and equalised after 39 minutes when a long crossfield ball went over the home defence to Sam Johnson who beat the keeper from close range.
Corinthians took the lead after 55 minutes through Luke Phillips whose shot from over thirty yards flew into the top corner and would have graced the game at any level.
R&H fought back with a well worked goal of their own, Craig Harrower slipping the ball into the path of Lewid Odell who beat the advancing keeper with a shot from the edge of the area. Five minutes later R&H were in front, Tyler Merries had gone forward for a set piece and when the ball was returned into the box after the initial kick had been cleared he was first to react and force the ball over the line. With the referee checking his watch for full time the R&H defence made the mistake of thinking the ball was going out of play for a goal kick only to see Corinthians rescue it and square it back to Luke Phillips whose powerful shot went in off the upright after Craig Patterson had somehow managed to get a hand to it.
