Even during the dark economic times of the last few years it has been interesting to see the number of UCL clubs who have been desperate to get out of the competition and into the Southern League.
I am not sure where this all comes from to be honest.
We have a really great competition that we are all battling to keep so why the desire to increase cost and expenditure ?
Can our clubs ambitions be fulfilled in this league? Its obviously strong, the FA Vase runs of some of our member clubs show this.

If it stacked up financially, then why not. However it doesn't, so staying put and having a team is by far the most sensible option.

I suppose it depends on the likelyhood of the UCL carrying on. The powers that be read this forum so you never know there might be a response coming

The powers that be read this forum so you never know there might be a response coming Ha Ha, Jimmy you were right Teams are looking at coming to us I have 3 contact me in the last couple of days, Harrowby (should be confirmed at AGM), Oadby Town as you see elsewhere on this forum and another from the Northants area. if you include the 6 teams that came to a joining the UCL meeting in February, 1 that as a new team hope to join 2013, then we could get a fully floodlit div one in 4 years. All we can do is encourage them, Develop our clubs, help them reach amazing goals both on and off the pitch, keep promoting our league and getting the best deals, and hopefully fend off the (goalpost-changing) FA and the negative media circus, but keeping the helpful (growth & potential) FA and the positive media circus

I don't believe there to be a scramble to get out of the League, it is called ambition, obviously this forum is well covered with Lynn fans stating their case and with the clubs obvious potential to rise up the pyramid to a level that will be commensurate to that for which their financial prowess will sustain. It is good luck to them, we all knew it would happen sooner or later, and quite possibly it maybe this season.
The three other clubs who applied for promotion were possibly slightly more speculative in making their applications which obviously is their own affairs. realistically at the time of making their application the reality of them being either in a promotional position or,for one, having adequate facilities is a matter for those clubs alone.
Next season there will be a few more pretenders for the crown and promotion, it is all about the financial backing or holding on to potential or building a team, next season could be even more interesting as clubs are jockeying for position around possible budgets etc. already being aired. One thing is for certain only one team will actually win the league.
There is too much excitement to debate for this season before we move on through the summer and kick off straight into the FA Cup which starts ridiculously early next year.
Keep the new clubs coming and keep the league vibrant, all we need now is some very good news on restructuring and the word recession, gloom and doom can be forgotten; we will all feel better for that!

Ok, maybe saying a 'scramble' was a bit of journalistic licence ! I do hear clubs talking a lot about the Southern League being the panacea.
For me although you gain plenty by going up, you can also lose a lot of the friendly atmosphere too.

But isn't sport about being the best you can be? Every football club wants to be top of the premier league don't they?

Maybe, but I can say with some degree of certainty that none of the UCL clubs will make it! Yes, even Kings Lynn...

Yes but being the best you can be. I never get this 'I don't want to go up' talk by some clubs (not just talking UCL).

If Yaxley had the choice of going up and taking an increased risk with travel costs, player wages and other expenditure, I would take staying down.
Of course you want to be your best, but most clubs have a level I think.

In my opinion clubs getting promoted to the Southern League needs three things which are Ground, Squad and Finance.
Clubs like Rothwell Town and Raunds forgot about the latter of those three and this is why both clubs are now where they are today.
