Great players dont make good / great managers thats the old adage anyway .... Zola could be .... Who else would you consider in the past , present or future that can fall into this category Cryuff , beckenbauer , dalgliesh all had very short careers

Not that I was around to see it, but apparently Brian Clough was a brilliant striker before he did his cruciate in 1962.
Internationally you'd have to throw Beckenbauer and Platini into the hat.

Think the donkey may be out of work this morning ... Yeah cloughie had a prolific strike rate by all accounts ... Platini and Beckanbauer , guys like that not lasted too long and im not sure how much they won FB won a little i think So i have slight issue with that ... Most great local players ive met over the years dont show the inclination or even the social skills for the job ... Perhaps they dont feel the need to prove themselves or is it something else

How about Martin O'Neill. He was an awesome player when Forest were winning Championships and European Cups for fun under Cloughy. His record as a manager is only second to Fergusons. He has done it with Wycombe, Leicester, Celtic and now Villa.

Beckenbauer and Platini's management careers were only short because they got promoted so quickly!
Wouldn't call O'Neill an "awesome" player. Obviously very good from his record, but not an all-time great. I saw him play for a Northern Ireland select XI to celebrate Wycombe moving from their old ground in 1990. He was somewhat overshadowed on the day by a Mr G Best.

Think Martin O'Neil was never the greatest of players but its clear that he was a good leader with consistency on the pitch, now showing these skills as a manager off the pitch

Shame but it looked like Hoddle had the potential to go on a be a great manager Maybe he still could be Think the england job came too soon for him even though his record was decent ... Even though he a bit UFO crazy i still think Hoddle is underated and could do a great job somewhere

Capello.......... only lost once in 2008 ;D oh you are about Ian, any chance of answering my pm then? Capello scored the goal against England, which effectively ended the great Bobby Moores career and I thought you had answered your own PM later in the day, when you found the missing post, was there anything else?
