I asked our newly reformed reserves team manager to pen a few words for UCL Chatter to introduce himself...
Jeff
"Its great to see a Yaxley reserve team back in action once again, I have the pleasure of being asked to run the reserves with Andy Uglow. My C.V. is mainly involved in youth football running teams for the past 12 years from the ages of 8yrs old up to 18yrs.
For the past two seasons Andy and myself have been involved with managing Yaxley U18 midweek football team, last season we finished 5th in the league 5 points behind the eventual winners Corby Town. The majority of players are now to old to play youth football and barring one or two players now make up the reserve team, with an average age of 20 years (if not younger) the directive on our part is to educate and develop these players into 1st team players with 2 or 3 players already playing a part now.
The forward thinking of the club and management structure all the way through the youth teams is to give promising young talent an avenue to develop with Yaxley football club and hopefully into 1st team players. With the current U/18 and reserve team players, Yaxley football club is awash with promising young talent and I would be surprised if at least half the 1st team was not made up of these players in 3 to 5 seasons time.
For most of the reserve team players it will be the first time they have played adult’s football and we envisage a big learning curve in the first half of the season with a strong finish towards the end, the philosophy of the team will be to play football on the floor with no pressure on results but more on development, but that’s not to say we do not want to win, because we know if these players play to there potential, it will take a good team to beat them. We are looking forward to a very exciting season and seeing young players developing into young men and with Andy, Hoops and Brett fulfilling all these players ambitions.
