Rushden Rangers ground isnt up to spec because wait for it...... The fence is about 6 inches to low! You can see through parts of it! There are a few other things but nothing that couldnt be fixed. I didn't know it mattered that you can see through the fence...? Can't you at St Ives?? A merge with Higham Town would be awful. Totally out of touch with the people of the two towns. The two populations are not keen on each other, Higham is seen is as better-than-thou, pompous, stuck-up, and pretentious in the worst middle class sense; and Rushden just generally seen as a dump, a dump that now has more pretend cockneys than locals... The two clubs need to bring in fans (or in my opinion, RR need to bring in fans, and Higham should cease altogether). There is a prime opportunity for this now, as locals are dissillusioned by the farce on the outskirts of Irthlingborough that call themself Rushden. RR would undoubtedly benefit from joining the UCL.

I cant say I agree with all your points but.....
I do know that most of the players at Higham have played for RR and vice versa. So I dont think the players would mind the merger.
I think they could get quite a good side together as the size of the two towns make for a decent catchment area.
I think maybe they could attract a lot of interest and support as people dont want to pay the £15 to watch R&D.

Roade is next to Blisworth, just off Junction 15 of the M1 (on the A508). It would be good to see them in the UCL.

blooming heck kiln park man.. bit strong.. Higham like a good few clubs are fighting for step 6 survival .... and ended the season really well.... a merger would give these two teams more hope for the future I think..

Yes, sorry UCLCook, it may have come over a little strong. I was actually talking abuot the people in the towns as opposed to the people in the clubs (the players etc).
pinky: Rushden is big enough (4 times bigger than Raunds), it doesn't need the likes of Higham to increase it's catchment area.

I think both towns could easily support a UCL side. I just dont think either side has enough people behind the scenes to operate them on a continued basis.
P.S It works for Rushden & Higham Rugby Club.

why does,nt the UCL let reserve sides into div 1, it happens in other leagues. In the Ridgeons league they have them in the prem and it has,nt harmed there league, it is a much stronger league than the UCL.

Roade will not be going into the Ucl and thats a fact. They have been putting lights up for the last 15 years, and on current criteria their place isnt good enough.

Hey at least they trying.. so few clubs are even doing that. Amendments are being made to changing rooms and showers so lights is the next on list.
best wishes to any club who has plans for step 6... because it aint easy!

After reading a few points from above, I can see there's a mixed view on the merge between Higham Town and Rushden Rangers. I personally believe that it would be a good idea. Higham Town have improved a lot since the arrival of James Le Masurier and he's obviously looking to bring in a wider range of players that can hold there own, if not try and challenge in DIV 1. I've heard a lot of good things about the improvements at Higham but obviously, the ground is awful and the backing behind the scenes isn't great. Rushden Rangers have a nice ground in a good catchment area and this would undoubtedly help Le Masurier attract better players. Also, the merge would ensure that the backroom staff tally is doubled and there would be more help off the field. I personally think that it's a great idea (if they can spend the money on RR ground) and there could be a big future for the two clubs?.

I agree. Both need a little of what the other have got.
