The match was nil nil at half time.
The ref then announced he was injured and the Irchester players/officials decided to abandon the game.
The linesman from Huntingdon, Russell Yezek, offered to take over, however, Irchester would not agree to this - this is despite Russell being a qualified referee. As anyone who knows him will tell you, he is probably the fairest official you will come across in local football. He officiates several times a week and even took charge of the game between Daventry and Huntingdon last month when the scheduled referee failed to show - a game which passed free of any controversial decisions.
I think it's fair to say that everyone from Huntingdon was disappointed with the Irchester decision and would question whether the action taken was within the UCL/FA guidelines - perhaps someone could confirm this ?

Russell also took the middle at Sleaford v Huntingdon last year, we both had Linesman qualified as refs, so we added a spare linesman, job done. At first we obviously, had a second thought, but the fixture had to be fulfilled, so the possible loss of 3 points and fine soon caused us to forget those . (UCL rules 15.3 & 8.6) We were happy with his performance, (especially as we won) ;D

These sort of things invariably happen but they dont do the leagues image with spectators any favours.
Not sure what the solution would be in terms of a steadfast process to avoid it though.

<puts officials hat on>
The simple answer would be to have neutral assistants on Division one games like most over supply leagues. Sadly we live in a supply and demand world and the demand far outweighs the supply when it comes to referees. Therefore you get this problem.
The UCL rules state that in the event of incapacity or failure to show of a referee, the 2 clubs must agree on a substitute who has full powers etc. The club that doesn't can be charged for failing to fulfil the fixture. Source - P91 of the UCL handbook!

There was no way Irchester would accept Russell Yezek. All who know Russ know how fair he is (except towards Huntingdon) but truth is Irchester made their minds up about 3 seconds after the ref's injury. Perhaps it had something to do with the game at Huntingdon when 1 down, an Irchester player through the ball down and took a free kick while the ball was rolling which was converted. The linesman (Rus) flagged for a moving ball. The ref could or should have sent off 4 or 5 Irchester players (and their manager) for their foul and abusive language directed at the Linesman. But truth is he is qualified, and Irchester must take the medicine, Fines, 3 points to Town and Town's expenses at the least. That alone should make them fall into line next time.

3 seasons ago blisworth played silby&where 4-1 down at h. time,the ref couldn,t continue due to a suspected heart attack.silby suppiled a club offical to ref the rest of the game,blisworth could have said no as they where getting beat,but didnt think it was fair to silby&wouldnt want it to be on the other foot&in the end blisworth turned the game round&won 5-4,the moral of the story is get on with it you never know what might happen
