Despite the message appearing at the bottom of each of their posts, and the badgering by members to sign up, guests proceed to remain as they are. There are even some regular guests now, such as cufcwatcher etc...
So how do we get them to become members? What is stopping them? Some may not have experience of internet forums, and might be a little bit apprehensive of some repurcussions (!) - or, I don't know, a little nervous that it will open up a gateway to hackers?, or convinced that you do pay some kind of 'stealth' fee?
Perhaps they aren't sure that they can access the forum from every computer in the world, with their own personal membership? But anyways, whatever it is we must strive to be more encouraging to them to sign up.
Most of us are agreed that guests should be able to post, and all of us agree that membership is a far more reliable etc etc etc... So we need to provide more incentive.
As it stands, guests have the same access as members... I think this should be restricted, but not restricted so much that guests cannot interact as well.
I have mentioned in another thread that members are cut more slack, and that controversial comments are considered, and in many cases welcomed by members, yet the same comments are not tolerated by non members. Let's put this more into action. If there is anything posted by a non member you think is uncalled for etc.. then get rid of it, put it into the stocks, and rip it to shreds. But be more accomodating to members. Be reluctant to put members postings in the stocks.
Also - I would really like to hear what others think on this one - how about allowing guests to post (as they can now), but not allowing them to start new threads? This would restrict what random guests can ramble on about, and would also encourage the regular guests to become members................
I think putting an advantage, or incentive, to being a member is the way forward.
Any thoughts?
