It would be interesting to know...1 / what clubs in ucl div 1 are in the position NOW and in place to go into the prem if finishing high enough ? 2 / Also could any of these clubs make the southern league if they then finished high enough the following season ? 3 / How many clubs in the prem could go southern league right NOW ? 4/ Criteria wise , what is the difference between ucl prem and southern league or is just a question of budget AND more importantly " A SUSTAINABLE BUDGET " ?? .

It is more a question of the unrealistic demands and ground grading requirements. how many in our ranks have been there and would have to upgrade (or have done already) just to return and will most likely get smaller crowds than when they were here. am not knocking ambition, but it goes hand in hand with major improvements, the costliest jumps in pyramid football at the moment are steps 5-4 and 3-2, so as you say a strong fan-base is needed.............. at the very least (also is a help if the chairman has deep pockets) ;D

I think a lot of clubs are strugling to get there grounds up to standard for UCL let alone the next level due to the new silly un-realistic FA ground gradings.
Newport are slowly up grading there ground to Southern league level with hopefully new stand going into place on the other side of the ground. Portaloos as a tempoary fix to get around the new regs possibly being put into ground. Its something they are trying to do over the next 2 or 3 seasons. But like most of the teams in the UCL they are having to rely on more sponsorship coming in. Just hope the FA can understand the teams present situations.
I would of thought that Buckingham (Been there before) possibly Raunds, Sleaford, Wellingborough (as we know) would be ok for next level.

We at Wellingborough, were visited by FA officials last season and the ground inspected with a view to possibly going into the Southern League in the future. Many volunteers worked tirelessly to implement the requirements on ground improvement. The FA did return and we passed their inspection. All we need now is to win the league !!!!!!! Yes I know, a very tall order but if we are good enough and realise our ambition, then I suppose, as has been suggested, we would be seeking a lot more sponsorship. That, combined with the inevitable hike in gate prices, might sustain us for a while. It's all a case of money, money, money nowadays. "John Boy"

Dont be so sure all about who has and has not got the facilities. latest FA docs very clear that if current step 5 clubs dont meet the criteria by March 31st they will be relegated and from visiting many of the grounds, there are a few out there who will not finish bottom come May but could be relegated under an FA instruction. Secure written tenure is a particular point especially for promotion to Step 4............do all current Prem clubs currently have this?..............not sure!

JJ ,
Interesting stuff .
What is the current situation at Whitworths regarding the future ?
1 / Meeting the criteria is not an issue and only a matter of time , infact imminent .
2/ Not looking good .
3/ Northants Combination league is a real possibility a couple of seasons down the line .
4/ start up somewhere else .
5/ Where do you stand with the league / fa on all of this .
6 / The club has healthy finances .
I noticed talk of a ladies team , is this perhaps your best route of getting the work done through the back door ?

All progressing but slowly SS. The works have started on the old Knapp factory and if they deliver on time then our frontage, power new car park etc should be complete before end of march 2008. We have a Project Manager now from within the Football Foundation and that should be through with luck again before Christmas and with 12 weeks work tops should also be finished before end of march. Not looking at any funding via ladies at the moment but may help in future. You will know we are always looking for opportunities but they come along at a slower rate than the FA change the criteria lol . All being well, win the league and here we come..financially broke but playing with the big dogs...

I'm pretty sure BSMFC have the facilities and grading to go Southern League. Over £400,000 has been spent doing the place up and the final touches (turnstiles etc) will be done if the club ever gets close enough to needing them.

BSMFC will also need covered area for 250 to include 150 seats. hard standing all round the ground, two turn stiles and a few other things I can't think of just yet. Not saying they can't do it, just that more than the clubhouse and changing facilities have to be improved.

Is it just me or is it a shame that clubs just seem to want to pass through the UCL?
Taking Woodford as an example, I only got to go there once or twice and they never really felt part of the UCL community for me.

The windy road bit from Daventry was a bit of a challenge!!! I suppose its nice that Yaxley is pretty central for most UCL clubs.

I went there once (two season before they were promoted) and thought it was a strange atmosphere. Mind you saying that, there were not many people there!

To answer SS's original point he should look at the link in ground gradings topic below started by ianh in November 06. This shows the August 07 position. In addition I understand there are only a couple of clubs that comply fully with the step 5 requirements currently- that will make for a large Division 1 next season !
