The trouble with this poll is that it does not include Managers of the real past when the players in the UCL were better, competition was stiffer and winning a game was alot more difficult. That said you can only beat what is in front of you and the record books only record winners....................therefore Joe Smyth will be shown to be the best Manager Whitworths have ever had because he was the manager of the team that won the only Div 1 title in the clubs history and that team went unbeaten a feat not achieved in over 100 years at this level. It also means that that group of players will be considered to be the best Whitworths team ever assembled and whilst some will argue, the record books state facts.
Poll over

Agreed JJ
Also SS, seriously how can a reserve team manager who only lastes a season be anywhere near a list of best managers ever at a Club??

Does that apply to the tea - lady , groundsman / kit man etc who I've also put in the poll !!!! Lighten up dude , but seen as you brought it up and JJ has also pointed strongly to-wards the record books / facts etc being the main indication perhaps we should look closer at it . I was not there for a season , i joined in October time when the reserve team was joint 2nd bottom after half a dozen games and hammered on a few occasions at that and moral was at an all - time low . I led them to a 3rd place finish in Ucl res div1 which was their highest finish in history . I also proved more than an able " support man / job " to Joe Scythe who then in turn led whitworths 1st team to their most successful and record breaking season . On top of this THE PLAYERS seem to think I'm pretty good AND this is very important ? . Perhaps my value will only be recognized when i am not there and the new season begins ? . So Cam my dear , while i started the poll in jest and even included my own name tongue in cheek....you will find that on closer examination it's not completely outrageous for me to be on there . Time will tell i suppose

Forgot to mention , that my points total from when i was there was as good IF not better or the best than anyone else in the Ucl.......Not that's it's important because like you say it's reserve football and we could all do that really easy , perhaps even you Cam lol

You may well say that it is only reserve football but from the games that I saw last season the Whitworth's reserve team would have held their own in the UCL Div 1 League

Ignorance is bliss !!! I agree with Merko , The Whitworths res team under MY management would have held their own no question and was more than capable of turning over it's own 1st team , a fact that has already been agreed and discussed somewhere on this forum by all concerned...certainly beating teams like the Thrapston of last season would not have proved too difficult . No offence meant but along with other teams who are under achieving the future will remain the same , until a manager like myself gets his chance . Anyway Cam my dear , don't underestimate my value last season and i'll say again...Time will tell

ss you keep going on about the res at whitworths yes i agree you came in when 2nd bottom and turned it around, losing 2 games on your way to 3rd !!AGREE what made Dan??then the manager leave ??was he pushed out or did he QUIT? not saying you did it but i saw the first couple of games then came 2 watch about 2 months later and you was there with the same group of players, from which the season before some did play in the 1st team so i think that the team should and would of been a mid table team. What players did you lend joe to help him win the league. this is not having a dig at you but just trying to put a picture together

Will try and explain!!!!!!!! Dan didn't quit he was still there but was struggling and so i took charge of the situation , even though Dan was still there , he was relieved i think!!!! Er don't think many played 1st team year before were playing for ressys as most of them new ? perhaps you are thinking of sarge and wezza who helped out when short ? Or Purse and Genty ? They both left after Xmas anyway and understandably so AND was another hurdle to overcome i forgot to mention!!!!. I brought in 2 big players for the res who gave the current bunch a shot in the arm , they were 2 big , strong presences in center mid with good ability, there value was massive and they blended well with the lads who recognized their qualities , their value should not be underestimated . I was also responsible for going out and watching the u18 team and bringing a few of them boys in and they did well and will figure for the future . I was also resp for persuading sarge and wezza to come and help out when they had been cast aside as to old by the 1st team boss . As for helping Joe - even when i was bare bones some weekends I NEVER hassled him for a couple of players and accepted that he always took his biggest and strongest squad , something i think some overlook . I also helped him in many other ways in the support job that i was there to do . As for me bringing in more than 2 players - I DIDN'T NEED TO , as i proved that i could work with what was there already , and to be honest it would be struggle to entice some of my contacts to come and sign for Whitworths Res in November!!!!!!!!!!! Anyway it's true they had some decent young players BUT do not underestimate the job i did Overall including some good advice and support back up moral wise for figo and the relationship we had, i backed him all the way and he will struggle to get that again . I do not wish to slag anyway off . My job now is to rival whitworths Fc , they are the top dogs now and this is the terrorist they find themselves in , last season has gone and this is my final comment on it as i have another job to do now AND THIS WEBSITE DISTRACTS ME It's all good fun in my eyes though , love the mind games

If the ressie side was so good and can easily force there way into a decent Div 1 1st team why didnt they??? If you are good enough to play for a UCL div 1, 1st team why play for a reserve side
