Good to get the three points from this one. Both teams had chances in the first half, both teams looking dangerous from the wings. Wellingborough scored first from a Tim Wooding penalty, Raunds then equalised with a well worked goal from Callum Ridgeway, ( from his celebration i think he was happy to score). Wellingborough then went 2-1 up when the ball was played through from midfield to Jonathon Mitchell, he lobbed the ball over Chris Jones and slotted the ball home from close range. Half time 2-1 wellingborough.
Second half much like the first with both teams creating chances, Jonesie in goal kicking was a little suspect but the goal mouth in the far goal was very slippy, as John Hughes complained about the same thing. Raunds attacked more second half and were awarded a penalty of which Matty Curtis sent John the wrong way and slotted home. You say your at your most vunerable after you score a goal, and that was the case as Wellingborough quickly attacked down the right wing with Stevie Blackwood, he crossed over the ball and Darren Collins thumped the ball home from 8 yards. Jed Ainge was then sent off for his second bookable miss timed tackle, and wellingborough had to dig deep and defend well in the last 20 mins as raunds attacked very well. With a combination of JOhn Hughes saves and Raunds shooting high and wide Wellingborough stood firm and got the three points.
All you ask of the officals is to be consistant, they were, consistantly poor in their decision making, for both sides. It did get niggly during the game as tackles were flying in from both sides, but the referee could have controlled it better,as it upset the rythem of both sides as they spent a lot of the time arguing with the ref. We needed to get the 3 points today to keep the pressure on Deeping, but they are looking very strong. Well played Raunds who were a threat, well done Doughboys lets keep trying to win our games and hope others slip up.

I said on the wellingborough forum about 300, wasn,t far off. i didn,t think there was going to be a huge crowd as Raunds don,t normally have big crowds, but saying that there was a fair few of them there boxing day.

Quite a rough game - both sides got stuck in - not quite as good as the scoreline suggests, and felt Raunds deserved a point out of it. I thought there would be around 450 there at least, Boxing Day and all. Still pretty good crowd for the UCL.

I think the gate was very poor considering the connections and time of year. It reminds me that this time last season Whitworths v WT2004 attracted 1,150. I know that was a one off but last years average gate for WT was around the 400 - 500 mark. Where have all those supporters gone??

True. I think KPM did a map of where the centre of the UCL universe is and we should judge our exiles from that point.
I think he made the centre of the UCL Raunds...

Judgejohn said of the WTFC v Raunds game "I think the gate was very poor considering the connections and time of year. Where have all those supporters gone??" I also thought that game could/should have been more, certainly @500 or so!?? The two game's between WTFC & Whitworths last season had a combined crowd of @2000. Why would this be? it was a lower grade of football (or was it?? maybe not according to some who watched WTFC v Raunds Boxing Day ) I dont think the poor crowd for WTFC v Raunds was in anyway down to Raunds not bringing enough fans over but more down to the loss of fan base WTFC have seen this season. And this is only my opinion, but last year WTFC had a young local side which captured the local people's support. This year they are generally viewed on as big time charlies with very few "Town Boys" for the crowd to relate to and get behind. I dont care either way, good luck to WTFC and Raunds in what they do, them having 1 supporter or 1000 makes no odds to me I am just passing an honest opinion on why I thought the crowd was low.

Fair point Figo about the crowd, but just to go back to the first game last year between Whitworths and Wellingborough on boxing day, there was no other games being played locally, so i guess everybody wanted to see that one, hense the crowd of over 1100. I have been told that the average crowd for last year was 320, and this year its 260. I don,t think the average of 400-500 is quite right mate. With regards your comment about where the fans have gone this year, thats a good question mate, i personally thought we would be getting a lot more than we have, but pricing could be a factor, fans views on what happened last year could be a factor, some would have gone to Raunds, some may have gone to Whitworths. As you go up in leagues you hope to attract more and more fans, but obviously prices to get in go up, so people might not want to pay that. Only the people of wellingborough can tell you why they don,t come it would be nice to hear from them with your views.

ther is no comparison between Raunds and Whitworths as regards a local Derby for Wellingborough. Whitworths v Wellingboro last season, was a local Derby in the true sense of the word, clubs located next door to each other, Wellingboroughs first season back in the league, both sets of fans hugely loyal, both Wellingborough teams, both desperate to win, little to choose between them as regards ability, and the Wellingboro managers link with Whitworths the previous season. What more could you want. |||
Raunds versus Wellingborough this season the only link being the Raunds Manager, and a few ex Boro players. Does not get the heart pumping quite the same does it. ?
As regards transfer of fans to Raunds, with gates of around 60 not many fans left, mainly parents of the players, I would think.
