Jeff - this is the table I used in my post on 11th which by excluding the 4 clubs with reduced mileage shows the rest increase by over 80%

Another quote this time from BBC radio London, their non league show on monday (podcast available) had an interview with FA spokesman Mike Appleby.
he said, that from soundings taken in September/October, 8 leagues were in favour of change, 4 against, 2 non committal. This prompted the FA to do more work. He then said that this was still a consultation process and if the CLUBS showed 'no appetite for change' the the status quo would be maintained. There would NOT be a vote 'as such'. the committee(ie conf/isth/north/south/county reps?) would decide.

Strictly tongue in cheek - no offence to our Lincs,Leics,Beds,Bucks, Cambs etc. teams. But how about a NFA league of the 18 teams currently in Prem/Div1 plus 2 phoenix sides from Kettering and Irthlingborough - tasty ! I'm sure we'd consider it if it involved fielding a Saturday mens team and we'd (no doubt) offer our support to the UCL cause regarding the proposed re-structure of the leagues. If I remember, I'll ask at our members meeting next week. We're beginning to get excited about the prospect of joining the UCL (wherever we're placed, by whomsoever makes these decisions) next season. For some of us who have been around a long time, it's a "return".

Current + proposed mileage table plus estimated additional travel costs for UCL clubs - Complete table for league now on our website home page www.yaxleyfc.comThese are just mileage related figures - no additional time allowances etc - some journeys will be 2-3 hours minimum. The FA says additional travel times will help prepare clubs for next level - forgot it was pantomime season! Jeff I might be reading this table wrong and I have only looked at Sleaford's row but the figures don't look right to me. We go up from approx 2152 to 2785 but it then shows that as an increase of 2783 miles and £5566. Now the 600 mile increase and other cost increases are more than enough for us to oppose this but think we all need to make sure we're using correct figures to batter down the FA's door.

The fault is in the original table which has existing mileage as 2point152 miles not 2,152. This changes additional mileage to 633.6 and cost to £1267.2. The totals are now: 33,472 ,54,256.70 , 20784.70 and 41,569.40

3ofdiamonds, out of curiosity where do you intend to play your "Saturday mens team " games next season if accepted by UCL. Are you any closer to finding yourselves a new home?

Its easy for the FA to make a decision without visiting the clubs and seeing how it will effect them. Pity Graham Kelly was not involved with the FA now, I am sure somebody would have bent his ear. The distances they expect clubs to travel is ridiculous. I thought it was a pain for us at St Neots to have to keep travelling along the M25 but at least the majority of our matches are less than 1.5 hrs away. It needs everyone to pull together to fight this fight.

The ground grading point is integral and I'm surprised it's not been raised previously as the FA wording clearly asks for 'full compliance' to ground gradings. From recollection, were St Neots the last club to have this before they went up? Additionally who's going to carry out any proposed Step 5 audit?

3ofdiamonds, out of curiosity where do you intend to play your "Saturday mens team " games next season if accepted by UCL. Are you any closer to finding yourselves a new home? That's one of the points to be discussed at next week's members meeting, I'm not party to the talks the committee have been holding with other clubs or options. Raunds Town have been superb to us and we'd be sad to leave them. I also believe we've increased their clubhouse usage and takings so if they don't agree to us being there then we both lose out to some degree, which would be a shame, but we'd totally understand and respect their position. Ultimately our intention is to move back to the Rushden, Higham or Irthlingborough area, our "spiritual" home (being ex Rushden Town & Irthlingborough Diamonds). I must also put in a big thank you to both Wellingborough Town and St. Neots who have been true friends.

There is something from 3ofdiamonds post that really says it all about clubs helping each others, we are all in one big family who's one comment interest that is 'football. The UCL is our football, our own league so we must stand up for it against those who conspire to destroy our identity, our friendships and fellow opponents. It is called the 'United Counties' for that reason, the joining of hands in the badge symbolizes that unity, so lets all raise our swords fight them together!

The map and articles in the Non League Paper today seem to seal our fact. Jeremy's words reflect the mood around the UCL

I too read the articles and it would appear that we appear to nearly be out there on our own at the minute. Out of the 14 Leagues it reads like the Sussesx League and ourselves are the main opponents, not oo sure if 2 out of 14 will be enought to change the thinking, bloody hope it does!

Twitter from todays fa meeting;- twitter.com/EEFCWebmasterSome intersting ponts:- EEFCWebmasterEpsom & Ewell FC Mike Appleby (FA) says step 5 and 6 is not local football, it is regional football. Rushden & Diamonds affected 9 clubs when they folded. EEFCWebmasterEpsom & Ewell FC The 2nd promotion place is now being raised but it just can't happen until we go from 14 to 12 divisions. It is definately an option though.

Looking at this from a selfish Step 7 view and from a side looking to move to Step 6 for Season 2013/14 when these changes kick in, it is the uncertainty over Step 6 that is a worry as this will be looked at at a later date. Now in advanced and final discussions regarding a £200k plus investment on our facilities and now unsure where we will be looking to go.
Ian's point is well made on how often 14 has not had to go into 12, but for me the fact that it could is nonsense. Bottom line is that more movement is needed between Step 4 & Step 5 to stop both from stagnating and a better method of achieving that is needed - personally would create a 4th Step 3 League based around the Midlands fed by 2 additional Step 4 leagues to provide greater symetry and consistency at the upper end and upgrade 2 of the Step 6 leagues to Step 5.
