Every player looks at the table prior to match and judges if it should be a hard or difficult game. That is why Irchester and PNS have both done so well because every team is up for it when they play either of you.
The other side of the coin is that players dont get up so much for what they consider weaker opposition and that is when the manager has to work.
I would guess by your comments and your league position that you are one of the managers passit that does not let your players think this for one second. However you were not at your game v BSMFC, you were not able to remind your players of this simple message, so maybe on this occassion Gerrard is right.
I agree with Gerrard also that on form PNS play better football than Irchester, and Eynesbury despite being very very good are not at the same level as either PNS or Irchester footballing wise.
However Irchester do have something more than PNS when the chips are down, a fighting spirit (when their manager is present) that may edge the title race.
As you have all said there are quite a few games left to play, with a few top of the table clashes yet, I think Eynesbury have the easiest run in. Very interesting this last 2 months will be. Good luck to all 3 of you.

Disagree with the first two paragraphs of Tad's post. No player worth his salt would look at a table and decide how difficult a game would be, especially not a UCL player where very little seperates many teams. I can't imagine Wayne Rooney looking at a league table and thinking i am not really up for this so much as they are near the bottom of the league. Maybe fill your team with 11 players that don't do this and your team may be nearer the top Tad.

I cant imagine Wayne Rooney doing it either, but maybe that is 1 reason he is playing in the Prem and not in the UCL. However Rooney may be an exception even in the prem. Example Liverpool beat Man U but couldnt beat Sunderland, Birmingham and Fulham within the same 3 week period.
I stand by my points, and think that most managers and players would agree with me.
Also for the record Gerrard,s post earlier was based on a statement made by an Irchester player to us following the game with them.

I stand by my point as well so we will have to agree to differ. Tad you claim that every player looks at a table and judges how hard a game will be. I am not saying some don't but i am saying any player worth his salt wouldn't. Any league can be strange where teams may be in a position that doesn't do them justice whether that be higher or lower than where they sit. A lower team may also have a style of play that matches up well against certain teams. You sight Liverpool as an example and their results are inconsistent but there could be other reasons than the players are not up for it. Maybe you are right, maybe some of their players can only get up for certain games but surely that backs the point that they are not worth their salt.

I guess the weekend's results kind of support my comment. PNS slip up, Irchester didnt. And those are the kind of games that might be the difference.
Darren, don't be upset that my prediction proved to be right - it just happens to be that it wasn't your boys who did slip up this weekend.

I think players do underestimate teams below them. As a player myself back in the day i would maybe consider going for a few beers on a Friday night judging it on who we had the next day..maybe thats why i didn't play higher than the UCL Premier division.. I think the higher you go the more professional it gets to the extent that you cant even begin to underestimate teams or your out on your Idiot. I understand the point ROBT is making about tactics, styles etc but its human nature ain't it to underestimate people

Well said DY. Irchester treat everyone with respect which cant be said of PNS. My mates at the Post Office in PBoro who seem to know a lot about PNS tell me that all is not well there. Last year TC knew everything about their opponents and planned for each game. This year they play 433 from minute 1 to 90 and dont care what their opponents do and have not got a clue about other teams. 1st team and reserves run as seperate teams and reserve players not wanting to go with first team. Eynesbury my bet for 2nd and another year in div 1 for the arrogant PNS.

Darren, I dont doubt that any manager worth his salt doesn't underestimate opposition - the truth of the matter is that its actually one of the hardest parts of managing - getting players up for every game and treating every game the same as a top of the table clash.
I'm not remotely attempting to get a nibble, I just know I've been guilty (as have most) of relaxing before a game against a lower placed side and it's come back to haunt me and in this division, there are teams that will nick a result if they're percieved to be weaker by players. In our away game against you guys whilst you were away - it felt like that. It felt like a result was expected.
As for the top three and the race for the title, I still think it's a two horse race and if you guys get at least a draw in the first top two clash, you should coast home to the title.
Tommyc - I'm sure promotion is the most important thing - and with that in mind, those two Irchy games might be crucial if Eynesbury keep chasing you down - no return from the Irchester games could open up 2nd and 3rd big time.

corbyken if that was a nibble you are far off the mark.
PNS are far from arrogant they are the perfect hosts when they play at home. Away from home they always spend plenty of time in the oppositions club house mingleing with all the players they have just played against. They are a genuinely nice bunch of people.
Of all the teams I have met in this division no one shows more respect to the opposition than them, as I am sure you will see when you eventually play against them.
If you mean arrogance by the fact that they have a target to win the title and or get promoted, then they have earnt that arrogance with league finishes of 5th, 2nd and 1st in the last 3 seasons respectively. Promotion was stolen from them last season by red tape that seems to only apply to some UCL teams. Lets hope the same red tape does not hinder your progress.
On that note I have 2 small questions for you.
What will happen to Daren Young and his players if the UCL deny you promotion after all your hard work, will you prevail and do it all again next season?
PNS's success has been built on strong foundations, Irchester however have finished 16th and bottom of the Division 3 years running. Daren has done a fantastic job and some of the big boys in the prem might take note he may get many job offers close season. What will happen to Irchester if Daren and his players move to another club?

What will happen to irchy..... What will happen to Chelsea if Rom moves on ? Way of the world and football me thinks. Different people achieve things they want to achieve in different ways and they go about it with the blessing of their bosses or they wouldn't have or keep the job. One thing i have learned over the years, is that is best to concentrate on your own team and try not to tell others how to do their business. Football would be boring if everyone had the same plan

God forbid I am not telling anyone how to do their job.
I dont even have a say in BSMFC Politics or business. I select my team full stop.
You are right of course BPW many clubs at all different levels rely on the continued backing/support effort of a few.
I withdraw my questions.

In answer to your question If I was going to leave Irchester for a prem or southern league club I could of already done that, however my priority is to get Irchester promotion, the ground will be ready and the chairman already knows my feelings for next season - also they are Irchester players not mine!!

Hey Tad, not having a go mate hope you don't think that. Just a bored with the Daren Young bashing thats been going on a few years now. I not saying you are but all i read on chatter is Daren having to defend himself, been going on years now Irchester and all other clubs know how ambitious a manager that Daren is and he wants to get somewhere pretty quickly. If the very least that Irchy come out of it is with improved facilities, then it will have been an improvement on what they had before him.

Eynesbury have done well to come back from 2 defeats against us and Irchester have only had a couple of bad results, but not a bad run. We have had a couple of dicky periods and are in 1 now and it is making for an interesting finale.
Next couple of weeks are important for all 3 sides and I am sure there will be a few more twists and turns along the way. Gut feel is that top 3 positions will end up as is at the moment, but I know Eynesbury will be doing all they can to gatecrash top 2.
Sides have celebrated taking points of us wildly over the past few years and I take that as a compliment - don't think it is because we are arrogant - just always one of the top sides (hold on isn't that arrogant!!)
